Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
It's very hot, dry and watery. Very hard to drink straight. Worked well in Painkiller
Fresh, easy, maybe floral on nose. Palate gets hot for the first second and more hotter later, but it doesn't bite. Its smooth and pleasant. Close to zero of Jamaican funk. Wide spectrum of notes - fruits, nuts, apple, spices. Aftertaste is the same as on palate and it's long.
Thanks Plantation!
P. S. Waiting for the first single cask of Planteray
When first opened and poured into a glass it had no smell. I swirled it for a few minutes and then it smelled like a swimming pool with a lot of chlorine. Waiting longer that faded to a strong vanilla smell.
And that's it. It tastes like drinking vanilla extract. I had hoped for spice and more since it is a 4-year rated higher than 7 here. Bought to replace my Wicked Dolphin which smells and tastes of honey, oranges and cinnamon. I hoped for better, not worse.
The thing is, in a cocktail (Krakatoa Punch) my opinion switched. This brought the tropical juice flavors forward and was otherwise invisible. Wicked Dolphin drowned the cocktail in cinnamon, orange and honey. Not remembering how the officially called for Sailor Jerry tasted (beyond bland and uninteresting), I can't say which was more appropriate.
Not a winner, but an improvement when mixing. Probably won't buy again though.
Overproof demerara. I expected smokey, bitter, and harsh. To be fair, besides this I've had Pyrat (barely demerara) and Pusser's Blue Label (ick).
Smells of fresh cut grass, chocolate and butterscotch. Straight it tastes surprisingly sweet with the butterscotch and molasses coming through.
Thinned with just an ice cube and the texture is still surprisingly smooth.
I wanted to replace my Gosling's 151 and expected them to be similar. I overpaid for this to have it shipped and so glad I did. Very different and nothing at all like Pusser's.
A sugarcane derived Barbados rum, very nice light taste with banana overtones. Nice finish with a slight burn. Slightly sweet but not overbearing. I think it deserves better than a 7 rating. Will buy again.
Light aroma with a vanilla tone. Sweetish but nice flavor with a good finish and no burn. It is very good for mixing, but sipping is nice too
Sure you can taste some banana and vanilla, but what shines through without overpowering is the Quebec maple syrup. Great as a eclectic mixer and I sipped some straight without complaint. My neighbor likes the bottle design so much I have to save it for them when I'm done. If you are looking for a high quality spiced for just a few dollars more, then this impresses. Not sure if you can get it outside of Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba right now, which is a shame. I was pleasantly surprised all round.
Thoughts: The first 2 Masters from Dictador we've tried and it's pretty good stuff. Is it £1100 good? Well, dark heavy and woody on the nose and the 44 years of age comes banging through. A sweet old leathery friend appears with notes of sherried wood (no surprise!) and raisins. Glad we tried it, yes! Would we try again, go on then. Would we buy a £1100 bottle, I'm not just sure it's there for that amount.
Rating: 8/10
Smell - woody, dark, heavy
Taste - sherried wood, raisins, pepper, old leather
After Taste - medium, woody notes
7,4:On the nose it opens with fresh sugar cane juice and exotic fruits like papaya, guava or even melon. These fruits will ripen as the rum is aired, letting in light nuts and vanilla. The woodiness is also light, a little waxy and resinous.
Aeration brings out gourmet and mature face with dried banana, fresh tobacco, yeast, even black tea and some perfumed notes. The woodiness is melted and slightly toasted, the spices are sweet-pepper and the orange peel, become caramelized, while cognac notes complete the picture on the nose.
7,2:On the palate it is rich, quite seductive. The citrus fruits begin their freshness, present themselves as a sweet marmalade with candied ginger shards. There is less sugar cane as on the nose. The mid-palate is very soft, the intensity goes down, but the aromas of waxy wood and dried fruits are really tasty. After rest, it is a bit iodized, bitter...
7,4:The finish is with sugar cane, woody, dry, with fresh tobacco, fruity, yeast and black tea, round and mellow.
Thoughts: A not-normal spiced rum. Arctifically added but the lime and vanilla provide a new experience. The mouth has an initial tang of toffee before the lime kicks in and then that is overtaken by a hot chilli spiciness. Downside is that all this excitement doesn't last very long and before we knew it we were reaching for another sip to write this review. We'd be surprised if this won a proper rum award but taking it for what it is, we think it's an enjoyable drink very easy to recommend.
Rating: 6/10
Smell - strong lime, sweet vanilla
Taste - lime, vanilla, toffee, chilli spiciness
After Taste - medium, vanilla and mild spice
Nice barrel smell, very good soft taste, balanced sweetness. Overally nice.
Nothing special. Good with ice and a mixer. The aftertaste is good.
7,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is not very pleasant, as the rum is heavy with metallic, synthetic and chemical touch, gunpowder as we were in some industrial work shop or similar. As it settles down, almond, citrus and tar could be noticed.
Well, it looks like aeration is urgently needed, as we get a bit different colours with red fruits, honey, marzipan, some nuts, pear, going towards overripe tropical fruits. Basic medicinal notes stay, bit are more muted now.
If well rested, the rum becomes darker with molasses and licorice, roasted with coffee, spicy with ginger and vanilla. We also find meat, peat and tobacco notes... Trinidadian dirty navy rhum as it is... Caroni.
8,4:On the palate, the attack is fruity with citrus and woody with tannins, roasted, medicinal with solvents, copper, burnt sugar, quite spicy. Quickly becomes dry, toasted with nuts, tropical fruits as maracuja, prunes. There is a nice honey touch and some caramel, tea. Going into more whisky notes with meat, peat, musty/ashy touch and tobacco. We cannot miss tar and finally herbal hints... Complex and well balanced, tasty.
8,1:The finish is long, woody, dry with tannins, dried fruits and vanilla, later with overripe tropical fruits, that become candied and honeyed, a bit spicy, musty and tar...
Better than existing reviews show...It shines, becomes round, tasty after a nice rest...Trinidadian navy rhum...
Not bad at all. Very similar to Mantuano, even the price. Although, I would prefer Mantuano which seems to me slightly more sophisticated.
Rich amber color. On the nose, there is a sugar cane sweetness with prominent alcohol smell. The taste is sharp at first, then fruity, sugar cane and strong oak barrel. Quite long oaky aftertaste.
With the price 23EUR it is really very good choice.
Distilled by Appleton Distillery and aged 21 years in Scotland, this rum is definitely something uncommon.
You can feel caramel, vanilla and a little bit of wood smelling it.
Drinking it you can feel smoke notes, dried fruite and more wood.
It’s elegant and particular; it never feels harsh or too aggressive.
In my (limited to be honest) experience, don’t expect from it the typical Jamaica’s rum; the 21 years in Scotland made it different, unique probably.
Quite expensive and really difficult to find.
This abomination is an insult to the very concept of spirits. It's a catastrophe that should never have seen the light of day.
The moment it touched my lips, I knew something was wrong. The aroma wafting up was like licking a bottle cap - stale and putrid. But hey, maybe it'll get better with a sip, right? Wrong.
I'm not even sure if this is supposed to be a joke or some kind of cruel prank on the unsuspecting consumer. Did someone actually think this was good? Are there people out there who genuinely enjoy drinking liquid painkillers with a splash of regret?

Appearance: rich amber
Aroma: aging is clearly evident, brown sugar
Flavor: oaken barrels rolling around, slight cigar finish.
Notes: this rum tastes like an oak plank dipped in rum. In the best way.
