It's very hot, dry and watery. Very hard to drink straight. Worked well in Painkiller

Avast! As over-proof rums go, this one be pullin' the ol' switcheroo from nose to tongue, so pay heed, ya swabs! On the nose, she does NOT smell over-proofed. Curse me for a lubber, but she has a fine smell about her! Oak with bits of vanilla and caramel - a grand start as most rums go. Every now and again, I be smellin' somethin' savory, which I took as coffee, but hidin' just below deck there be a bit of spiciness about her and a brightness that, I dare swear, comes from fruit. Just when ya think ya got this one all figured out, she rips off the mask she was hidin' behind and reveals her true self. On the tongue, flavor explodes in a confusin' number of ways. First with burnt sugar, followed by apples (!), then mocha (!!), then a hint of spices, and finally a soft bitterness that may be comin' from... coffee? Other than that last whiff of coffee, none of the aromas come on board. She be slightly sweet the more ya drink, but this rum be HOT. Hang me for a lewd cur, but there be a decent burn on the lips, the mouth, the tongue, the throat, and the belly. More heat than I've seen from other over-proofed rums - which were a much higher proof than this 114-proof rum! The burn fades the more ya drink, so that be a kindness, but the big question be: Might this be a sippin' rum? Aye... if ya can handle the burn. The flavor be decent, and if ya be lookin' for an over-proof rum with zero funk, this be the one to try. Arrgh!

Nose is mild, but hot upon tasting. Finish is kind of short, but fades to sweetness instead of spices.

Tasted March 10 2024 thanks to the Cain family voyages
Appearance: golden
Aroma: peaches and cedar
Flavor: white pepper, candy sugar, trace of peaches
Tasting notes: this is a hot rum so you'll want to use it in a cocktail. 🍹 Because I'm imagining peach flavors, I think it would pair well with ginger beer and blackberry, perhaps with passion fruit.
Someone just walked by with something I am certain is not a hotdog, but the aroma has me thinking about summer and I think this rum would be a good friend of summertime picnics.

Tasted on 3-10-24 thanks to Admiral Bill. Bronze golden hue. No heat at all on the nose. Still has that signature unique sweet/bitter Barbados signature. Honey and treacle sweetness midpoint. Oddly, with a few drops of water, this actually gets hotter!

Very nice for the price, I think it puts to shame Plantation XO (which I just don't understand) for half the price. The high ABV really brings flavors out and makes this Bajan rum more interesting than the lower ABV Mount Gay rums. I like that it is a limited edition too, cool that way.

Clearly shares DNA with the Eclipse Black at ABV 50%, but a bit more flavorful and layered. Very nice mouth feel, and while high ABV, does not come off as such on the nose or the palate. You do get alcohol on the nose, but far less than you might expect. Some warmth going down, but no burn to speak of. Reasonably well-balanced. Fairly dry, lightly fruity, spicy, a (pleasantly) bitter note in the finish. Hints of vanilla and caramel popcorn. I do recommend trying it given the price.

Ain't Navy Strength 54.5%....??

Caramel notes, long finish! Nice for an old fashion.

Caramel nose, port wine taste and then an unappealing bitter burn, good for those that like dominican tasting rums which Im not a fan (+2 if you are)
