Australian Rum

Posted 6 Sep '24 by Xpommy 🇦🇺 | 18 ratings

Hoochery distillery in the Kimberley region makes some great rums . Really fond of the 5 rivers spiced rum.  Hint of sweet mango in the mix which I just seem to like .Also like the coconut rum from Grove distillery . just not really a fan of the Bundy rums . It's an acquired taste!...

Collecting bottles

Posted 9 Sep '24 by SlandT 🇺🇸 | 30 ratings

If you don't plan to drink it, I see no reason to buy it. For 151 dark rum I had Gosling's which is easy for me to pick up where I live and isn't expensive.  It's dark but not true demerara. So I had Lemon Hart 151 shipped to me this weekend.  How is it?  Delicious.  Surprisingly amazing for high proof. Then I made a cocktail that calls for it.   The drink uses it for a quarter of the amount of...

Diamond Reserve Demerara 151

Posted 29 Aug '24 by SlandT 🇺🇸 | 30 ratings

CocktailWonk in their nine tiki rum category list for overproof Demerara has ‘Diamond Reserve Demerara 151 (not the “white” overproof’. Researching it, I found it listed on TotalWine nearby at a nice price. My question is, why isn't it here on RumRatings?  Has no one tried this?  It just seems odd to not be on the list of Diamond Reserve rums. https://rumratings.com/companies/589-diamond-reserv...

Looking to start my own little tiki bar, any recs?

Posted 29 Aug '24 by Cool Breeze (PREMIUM) 🇺🇸 | 644 ratings

Since 2018, I have operated The Forbidden Hole home tiki bar (featured in the book, Polynesiacs). It's remarkable how many classic tiki cocktails work great with Planteray 3 Star. I consider it a staple of the home tiki bar. I also keep Smith and Cross, Pusser's, Wray & Nephew, Lemon Hart 151, El Dorado 12, and Cruzan Black Strap....

Bad bottle Brinley Gold Shipwreck Spiced?

Posted 24 Aug '24 by DB 🇺🇸 | 81 ratings

I'd imagine it is safe to drink. You could always filter it. As long as it doesn't smell or taste "off" (a small sampling, of course!), it's liley fine. It's really hard (for me) to tell from the photo how bad it is. But since you got your $$$ back, just get another one if you're worried....

Discovering the Mandalay Spirit

Posted 24 Jul '24 by Taylor Holmes 🇲🇲 | 0 ratings

Hello Rum Lovers, I recently had the pleasure of experiencing The Mandalay Spirit, a rum that is representing the cultural landscape of Myanmar. I wanted to share my impressions and hear your thoughts on this unique beverage. Mandalay Spirit is crafted with traditional methods that reflect Myanmar’s long history of spirit production. The distillery highlights using local ingred...

How far have any of you gone to bring back at least 6 bottles of rum?

Posted 30 Jul '24 by Rapid City Rich 🇺🇸 | 21 ratings

Well I recently returned from a 3000 mile driving trip of the United States. Granted there were many reasons for the trip, but finding rum was one of them. I stopped in countless stores and brought back 10 different rums. Some great (Old Monk) and some disappointingly bad (Pecan Street Rum from TX)....

Neisson Blanc 50 vs 52.5

Posted 27 Jun '24 by DB 🇺🇸 | 81 ratings

You might want to visit the Neisson site, they have a bit of info on the two - not a lot, but it might give you some hints. It appears that the 52.5 is rested/reduced over a 3 month period vs. 6 weeks for the 50%   Can't comment on whether or not one is better than the other or other differences....

A new Kirkland Panama Rum

Posted 25 Jul '24 by SlandT 🇺🇸 | 30 ratings

What you can do is go to their delivery site and enter a deliver address of local Costcos near you instead of your own address.  It will make sure that's where the delivery comes from and let you know something is in stock without having to drive there. Kirkland Signature 12 Years Aged Port Rum, Panama, 750 ml (You can also call them and ask.)...

Hog Bay Needs an Update

Posted 21 Jun '24 by DB 🇺🇸 | 81 ratings

Gibbs Hill is the wannabe Goslings - and trust me, it is not. To the best of my knowledge, there is no rum produced in Bermuda, but happy to be corrected if that is not the case. TWM does not hire people to fluff ratings. Do employees possibly fluff? Maybe. Some Spirits Direct selections though (net necessarily rum, but across the board) are actually incredibly good. Certain well-known brands ca...

Gosling’s out of stock?

Posted 30 Jul '24 by SlandT 🇺🇸 | 30 ratings

The Dark 'n' Stormy, while officially is the trademark owned drink by Goslings, the more popular drink in Bermuda is the Rum Swizzle: https://www.liquor.com/recipes/bermuda-rum-swizzle/ Of course then you'll need to find a bottle of Gosling's Gold Seal Rum as well... which I've honestly never seen (not that I'm looking)....

Sweet like El Dorado 12-Year - but different?

Posted 6 Jun '24 by DB 🇺🇸 | 81 ratings

Enzo - look to Jamaican rums if you want a radically differnt profile, specifically ones known for funk. Be warned - this might not be for you - so you can start with less funky - maybe go with Appleton 8, 12, 15yr., pricier than El Dorado, but still tolerable. You could also look to Chairman's Reserve from St. Lucia - not RADICALLY different, but different enough you'll know it. Legacy is good, ...

The rums that are still around after six and a half years on this site.

Posted 16 Jun '24 by Paul B 🇺🇸 | 477 ratings

Kevin, here is another rum that has been around for a very long time, but has now shown tremedous improvement - Pusser's Rum 84. Why? This one is now 100% from Guyana with the portion from Trinidad left out from that old blend.  I watered down some Pusser's Gunpowder Proof to be 84 proof and compared the two side by side.  I could NOT telll them apart!!! And Pusser's 84 is very cheap and readily a...

Coconut Rum Drink Mixes

Hi LaneH53, I like drinks in the summer on Saturdays after work, something different every summer. One time Dark'n'Stormy Original with Gosling's Rum, another time Ti'Punch with Agricole from French overseas departments or a fruit juice with a hearty Jamaican like Rum Fire or a lively Cuba Libre with Plantation O.F.T.D.. Enjoy the mix By the way: I mainly use coconut rum for cooking....
