Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

Have downed a fair few of these bottles. Only issue is that it’s a little on the strong side for me (many hangovers) and there are better rums for a better price out there
The smell is sweetish and not too much natural, the taste overly sweet and the spices are clearly added. I recommend putting this in a cocktail or better yet, adding spices to a better rum for yourself. Not as bad as the Don Papa but it's in the same league.
If you want a headache..sip Kraken often.
A great mixer in my opinion, but the additives are lowering my rating. Added color and sugar is a no in my books and many rums are guilty of not performing well in this category. Tasty if mixed with Coke, can be sipped occasionally with care.

I enjoy all my spirits neat and am very pleased with Kraken. Just the right level of spice in a dark sweet rum that coats your mouth nicely. The higher ABV is warming with a nice level of burn going down. Fantastic.
Delicious on the rocks to enjoy the spices or an excellent mixer. Better than any spiced rum I’ve had, and serves a niche. Not challenging or overblown. Just simple and nice.
Ive rated this as a 7 because its a perfect fit for middle ground. Smooth drop with plenty of sugar. Its a go to drop if you are tight on a budget. Around $50-$60AUD is a much better choice than similar priced captin morgan or sailor jerry however much better to drop another $10 and get a Plantation Pineapple rum 7/10

Many purists will tell you that kraken is no true rum. That the additives take away from the experience. While I would agree at higher price points, at lower prices I dont mind.
All I care about in cheap rum is mixability. Hence why I give kraken a 7/10.
One of my favorite rums to mix a dark and stormy or other simple/cheap cocktails with.
Rich on flavor (despite being artificial) and hard hitting on the alcohol content. A little of this stuff goes a long way.
