Kaniche XO rum is produced in Barbados where it is first aged in bourbon casks. It is one of the few rums that is then double aged for a more mellow finished in Pierre Ferrand ex cognac casks at their location in France.

Straightforward, uncomplicated, sweet, and enjoyable. Tasted side by side with the more expensive Perfeccion, and I can’t really say this is inferior.
First taste: NO Way!!! Secondat taste: Perhaps. Now: Oh Yeah.
Not your everyday rum, quite sweet with hints of cinnamon!!! on the palate
Initial smell wasn’t very good - chemical/alcohol. Then I’m thinking … oh no. But then I sipped. I’m an advanced intermediate rum drinker - by no means an expert.
I could taste the caramel immediately, but in a good way, but then later it tasted like liquid cinnamon rolls - 1-2 are good … 3 or more is too much. To me, it’s more sweet than Diplomatico Reserva. Reminded me of Brach’s caramel candy squares I used to eat as a kid.
No burn, no bad after taste. And after a few great sips, I smelled again and could cleanly smell caramel.
I can’t wait to taste the “better” Dictador’s. But I will say that this was a fine introduction. I look forward to sipping XO.
But in the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the rest of the bottle. For $25 US, I’d say it is one hell of a rum. I’m kinda sad that it was the last bottle at TWN & they didn’t have a label on the shelf, so it was the last bottle :(
Can’t believe that the coffee and orange bottles were a higher price. I definitely recommend giving it a try!
This is my 1st Kaniché. Not bad. My 1st taste was gingerbread. Crazy, right. But I like it. Can’t wait to try some of their other bottles.
Wanted to try a bottle of this and did a taste testing with a few other Barbados sipping rums we have. I like Barbados rums as they do not allow any sugar adulteration to the rum. This is very smooth and had a wonderful blends of flavors It is a little sweeter than the other Barbados sippers we have, but then it is aged less, so I would expect more residual sugars. I would definitely do this one either neat or over the rocks.
It's a solid Barbadian rum—nice, mellow, works as a mixer or as a sipper. The only thing that's keeping me from rating it higher is the price point. If it were around the $25 price point (as it apparently was a few years ago), I'd consider it a steal, but at $35 where I am, it's advisable to save yourself $10 and just get the Doorly's XO instead.
Recommended by Robert at Total Wine, associate was very knowledgeable on Rum. As a sipper, it’s sweet and light with hints of vanilla, cinnamon and coconut. Bargain at $29. Cons are added sugar, enough to make it have a sticky feel to it.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is my second Kaniche purchase. I still have some Perfeccion left so had to do a side by side test. I find the XO to be sweeter and just a little less complex in flavor in initial taste and aftertaste than Perfeccion. I have rated both a 7 but for me Perfeccion has just a tiny bit better character than XO but I would not hesitate to recommend either one or purchase either again.
