Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered.
The name Don Papa rum was inspired by Papa Isio, a leader of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish who led his island to independence before joining the main revolutionary movement.

An excellent tasting rum. Strong hints of vanilla but not overly sweet. Enjoyable especially with your favorite mix.
If you want something more then the bottom level of rum this is nice stepping stone but move on to greatness from here. For those who prefer liquer to spirits this is a good catch.
On the nose you're instantly greeted by the vanilla, and also a bit of a wooden aroma afterwards. Drinking it again is an experience of Vanilla at first, but also a little hint of fruit that I initially couldn't put my finger on. It turns out to be apricot. In general I was pleasently surprised too be honest. I like it.
Vanille, vanille en nog eens vanille. Makkelijke dronk, zeker on the rocks.
When I read a lot of the reviews I was very confused by all the negative comments. We don't get many foreign rums outside the Captain Morgan an Bacardi ranges in SA. I enjoyed this rum. it is very smooth with a nice vanilla caramel flavour.
On my first tasting of Don Papa, I was floored by all that taste exploding in my mouth and fascinated by the graphics on the bottle. It was like seeing the hallucinations of someone's acid trip in the 60's. I've sipped it straight, mixed it into Mai-Tais using Trader Vics "original" recipe, and a few other recipes calling for a flavorful rum. each time I've tried it straight or lightly diluted with a little ice, I've picked up different flavors. Today as I inventory my rum collection, I picked up a distinctly citrusy note, almost as though I had left a bit of Curaรงao in my glass. I could sniff my tasting glass all day with the Don Papa in it. Butterscotch, Cadbury's Chocolate Orange, freshly cut oak lumber...oh man, it just never stops. Rum purists, I'm sure are gnashing their teeth and cursing that this is an abomination, but I'm a flavor, taste and smell addict. I love this stuff!
Very good. Sweet extra vanilla flavor with bold finish. Smooth with a sweet aroma.
This should not be called rum. It is just super sweet trash with artificial aroma and taste. Nothing for aged rum fans. 4 just because I tasted worse things than this...

Smells a lot like a vanilla and lemonade ice cream float.
"For all its sweet sugariness, its really very drying and bitter on the palate once it all settles down."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I think I enjoyed this more than most because I was on a vacation high in the Philippines ๐
