Don Papa Small Batch

Im usually a Rum and (diet) cola drinker, but i really really enjoy this rum on its own over ice. It is very mellow with more than just a hint of lovely caramel and vanilla. Beautiful rum

Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered.

The name Don Papa rum was inspired by Papa Isio, a leader of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish who led his island to independence before joining the main revolutionary movement.

Aged rum or flavored rum?

I've been able to taste this rum at the Paris RumFest in 2014. This rum has clearly been designed to reach the general public, not aged rum fans: It is syrupy, in appearance as in taste and reminds me some cough syrup that I had to drink when I was younger. Not really desagradable, but clearly not neither what I expect from an aged rum!
It could be compared to the Arcane Extraroma from Mauritius for its very fruitful taste and it probably shares with the Arcane the addition of cane syrup, even probably flavored cane syrup (artificially flavored or naturally, this is what remains to be determined in my opinion).

When I arrived in the Philippines and tasted the rum I was surprised. Philippino rum is very sweet! I personally do not feel too much of the effect of aging. The flavors are intense and sweet with hints of dried fruit, vanilla and caramel.

Na Slovensku veľmi populárny rum. Osobne ho nepovažujem za nič výnimočné avšak je veľmi špecifický a jeho chuť a vôňa si nezameniteľné.

Prefer pyrat over don papa. Missing a clear character and taste

Tastes similar to Luggar with a gummy sweet quality to it. Best drank neat.

This rum stands out of the rest - whether in a good or bad way depends on if you like super sweet medicine combined with fruits. It was interesting and drinkable for sure, but it is definitely not what I am looking for when trying new rums.

Oblíbený rum jednoho mého kamaráda a několika kamarádek. Je to takové sladidlo, které hodně lidí do sebe lije ve velkém. Voní hodně sladce po vanilce a je také hodně sladký.

Veľmi intenzívna vôňa po vanilke. Chuť je tiež zaujímavá no ak fľašu pijem postupne a dlhšie tak vôňa sa stráca a mizne. Niekto povie že ide o veľmi sladký rum a umelo pridaný cukor. Za mňa ide o vydarený rum nielen svojou vôňou ale aj chuťou.
