Gosling’s out of stock?
I am new to rum and would like to try an "honest" Dark'N Stormy. However, Gosling's Black Seal has been out of stock everywhere. I am on a road trip from Northern United States to the South. I have checked shops in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and now Texas. They say they carry it but when they go to look the shelf is empty. One privateer said he heard they were going under?
Anyone have any insight?
Widely available in Alabama. Having a darkn stormy right now!🥃
Makes me jealous, maybe, I don't know?
Pulled off the Interstate between Austin and San Antonio, TX to take a driving break. On a chance there was a small liquor store where I found a bottle!
Won't crack it for a week, but it at least made for an adventure. 1,890 miles from home!
Readily available here in SF Bay Area. Anyway, glad you found it!
Now you need to find a bottle of their 151 version.
I finally had a "legal" Dark 'N Stormy. Maybe it was the hunt or the moment but it was the best Daek N' Stormy I have had. Made for the rum for sure!
Mostly I'm not a fan of ginger beer so I'm not a huge fan of that. Gosling's does work best with it though.
I recently tried a Dark 'n' Stormy as well as a Dark & Tropical Stormy with Fever Tree and it was a bit better.
Tested with Hog Bay Rum for fun since I'm out of standard Gosling's ATM and it didn't hold up as well.
Had a better try with 1/3 Hog Bay and 1/3 Gosling's 151 (no third 1/3 because of the overproof).
Goslings standard, Family Reserve, and 151 are all still widely available up here in Maine. I certainly hope they're not going OOB since the 151 is my go to bang for the buck mixer.
I doubt they are going under very old Bermuda company distillery, readily available in Florida & the Bahamas, only drink it for Dark & Stormys. I did just score a bottle of Papa Seal Single Barrel 41.5 proof rum on Rum Auctioneer looking forward to trying it in 3-4 weeks.
Just to check, now that I am home, I went to some local stores. Yes, we have that, until we go to the shelves and they don't! Savoring the bottle I have!
The Dark 'n' Stormy, while officially is the trademark owned drink by Goslings, the more popular drink in Bermuda is the Rum Swizzle: https://www.liquor.com/recipes/bermuda-rum-swizzle/
Of course then you'll need to find a bottle of Gosling's Gold Seal Rum as well... which I've honestly never seen (not that I'm looking).
