Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Im a fan of the Diplomatico Exclusiva Reserva, and this is like the fine wine version. Retaining that classic Diplomatico sweetness the PX sherry influence refines that flavour profile. Cinnamon nutmeg followed by hints of Chocolate.
2 fingers of this and a Dominican Republic cigar and you've found my happy place.
It's fine. Just fine. I had heard such great things, maybe my expectations were too high but it just struck me as a mixer than disappears into the drink. Wanted to love it but didn't.
On first opening all I could taste was the oak. After a week the oak calmed down a bit and I could taste some coca with a dry spicy oak finish. Excellent rum but I prefer something a little sweeter.
Compared to Clifton Hall Great House in BB.
The new edition in the wonky pirate bottle, but with turquoise label trim.
Colour: Amber
Nose: Unmistakably Foursquare, but more restrained than the Clifton. Fruity, some chocolate and spice, a hint of oak.
Palate: Smooth, not as aggressive as the Clifton, belying the 46%. The fruit notes get dominated by wood and spice.
Sweetness: 1/5
Throat: Gentle burn. The wood notes linger, turn to a hint of tobacco.
Summary: superb rum for the price (£ 52 at Master of Malt 07/24). Not quite on par with the exceptional cask series, but they start at £ 80 IF you can get them.
For people who like whisky and Cognac.
Understand this is a Canadian exclusive and part of a series of similar releases over the next few years - Ltd Edition to 13,000 bottles. Enjoyed this a lot, great sipper and better or at least as good as the 12 year. No funk, just a lot of pleasure with the highlight being the finish of the 18 year old Speyside Scotch barrels shining through. Cheers
It was a bit of a gamble here in Portugal, but it was more smooth than I expected...
Pretty smooth. Nice depth of flavour. It feels a little buried in a sleeve of column still blandness, which I find a bit odd. I find Foursquare and St. Lucia Distillers do a better job of marrying the pot and column still rums in the blend.
Plenty of wood and brown sugar with a touch of funk. It reminds me of Chairman's Reserve Original, but definitely has that extra age, complexity and finish, and is better for it.
I like it so much better than the Rare Blend, which, to my mind, had a weird vibe I didn't like.
This is very drinkable, tasty enough, and decent value at full price. On special, like this was, I'm very happy!
Nice smell of cognac,
Very smooth on the tong, it's more a spirit than a rhum.
Lot's of sugar, not very subtil, strong taste of cognac, coffee at the end
Nose is all creme brulee. First sip slightly creamy and very smooth toffee, followed by a hint of cinnamon and a big hit of burnt sugar
Part of a Planteray tasting at Kill Devil Rum Club's August meeting at Laka Lono.
Appearance: gold
Aroma: honeydew
Flavor: funk
Notes: this is a hotter rum than I easily relate to, but I appreciated the complexity. Flavors of roots and overturned potted plant with a drying palate.
Tasted as part of Planteray tasting at Kill Devil Rum Club at Laka Lono August 2024
Appearance: clear
Aroma: bread, sweetness
Flavor: must, pear
Notes: This rum comes in hot. It tastes intensely of nature.
Tasted at Kill Devil Rum Club Planteray night at Laka Lono
Appearance: gold
Aroma: fake vanilla
Flavor: listerine
Notes: I am not a fan of this rum, which surprised me. I found the artificial flavors offputting, with an overall medicinal tone likely generated by the artificial vanilla additives.
Tasted at Kill Devil Rum Club Planteray night at Laka Lono
Appearance: light gold
Aroma: exotic wood
Flavor: a dry flavor, ends with vanilla
In the midst of a Planteray training, this rum did not especially stand out for me other than being a specific flavor and well-made.
Profumo ottimo e equilibrato.
Al naso sentore dolce di vaniglia e noci.
Al palato leggero sentore di spezie e legno con finale lungo e piacevole. Personalmente uno dei miei preferiti.
Go to rum, good flavours to enjoy' Not the best in it's age category.
Lovely taste, different kind of flavours that are strong but.not overwelming.
Rough and unfinished. It’s needs a sweetness to tame its bite!
There’s a lot to like here, primarily the complexity of the flavor the follows a very pretty vanilla bouquet. What’s not there that I hoped for is more body (it’s actually quite thin) and a longer, smoother finish (it ends with a rather abruptl bit of burning). For the price, all that I hoped for should have been there.
This is my first Plantation Rum and my first Overproof.
Strong for sure but still amazingly smooth. Worth a try if you are looking to grab the beast by the tail and hang on.
Strong coffe flavour and vanilla
Probably good for dessert.
7,4:The nose opens with a fairly light rum, underlined by a strong toasted woodiness. Some fruit rests at the heart of the glass, with a little orange peel bringing precision and a certain hold. Vanilla and other sweet spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg, retain their liveliness and freshness. There are some medicinal notes and roastedness, mocha.
The aeration brings more freshness and the fruit takes advantage to deliver a rich, sweet juice. Orange peel is the first to emerge, paving the way for more exotic fruits, ripe to the point of ripeness, without exaggeration. American oak follows in classic fashion, with luscious notes of vanilla, coconut and blond tobacco, dried fruits.
7,5:The palate is soft and entirely devoted to the American oak cask. After a slight bite of dry wood, vanilla, sweet spices and toasted coconut quickly invade the palate, taking us into familiar territory, some metallic notes. The wood becomes more toasted on the mid-palate, approaching caramelized and roasted nuts such as pecan.
7:The finish is light, with luscious coconut and orange peel returning to service.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
