The Plantation One Time Limited 2007 Australia comes from the Beenleigh Distillery and was distilled after a twelve-day fermentation in pot style. First he was allowed to store for 12 years in Australia in bourbon barrels and then in France in cognac barrels. Without sugar, the rum was bottled with 49.3% alcohol. As has always been the most recent, all the information can be found on the bottle. Good.

On the nose, the rum is earthy with a vanilla and fruit note. Bourbon notes come with it. Spicy with a light chocolate note, a little adhesive is also recognizable. So far so good. On the palate, the rum is dry and spicy. Little sweetness but a lot of wood with tannins. Some fruit and coconut resonates. The rum becomes more complex over time and has a nice dry base, to which the cognac finish fits well. The finish is woody and shows many bitter substances. Here comes the floral, earthy notes again.

A solid dry rum that (unfortunately) has the typical plantation cognac finish. But here it fits well. If you like spicy, dry rums, this is the right place for you.

Soweit so gut.

When I think of the dry grape varieties that go into making cognac i think I understand this rum better. Whatever sweet note there is comes from the ex-bourbon barrels at Beenleigh and then this is surpassed by the Ferrand Cognac barrels that the cognac stole all the natural flavour and sugar from already. This is a tight rum that appears to not want to open up... to me anyway. I guess I may have learned I prefer a sweeter finishing cask or a little dosage (don't tell anyone).
It has that dry aperitif-y taste of cognac which is still delicious rum but its not gonna release all the bonus stuff if i was to warm my glass for a few minutes.

This was an interesting rum from Australia, but it's simply too dry for my liking.

Has a bit of a fruity smell and taste, with some pepper, oak, and bourbon.

But too dry for my personal liking.

Wanted to try something different. And then i found this one from Australia. Has a bit of a burn, But once you get past that, You're met with sweet spices, caramels and a long lingering soft heat. A really good sipper.

Tasted at Kill Devil Rum Club Planteray night at Laka Lono
Appearance: light gold
Aroma: exotic wood
Flavor: a dry flavor, ends with vanilla
In the midst of a Planteray training, this rum did not especially stand out for me other than being a specific flavor and well-made.

Sampled on 6-26-24 at the Lake Loon Kill Devil Rum Club tasting event hosted by Adrienne Stoner of Planteray Rums. Pours a gold color. Has a very buttery palate. Lots of honey flavor in this. I get some mint and some sassafras. Finishes oddly with a cola flavor. Unusual and delightful.

In the glass. Very strong smell of alcohol with oak. When rubbing in you're hands you get more a smell of raisins. With little nips you get the fruit elegant side of the rum a bit floral. And a bit of spicyness. Don't take this rum too quick. Learn to search for the softer side. The first two times I tasted this rum. I thought 'how is this good it's just strong and spicy and you can't breath when you swallow it. Now I've taken it with care. It was more pleasant.

It requires some time and attention, but gives a lot of pleasure in return.
