Barcelo Imperial rum is produced in the Dominican Republic using column stills before aged in white oak casks for up to 10 years.
Ron Barcelo was founded in 1929 by Spanish entrepreneur Julian Barcelo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The brand was sold mainly in the Caribbean and North America until a much broader international expansion began in 1992.

The bottle looks very luxurious for its price. However, there is 8 YO rum inside, which I rank rather in a better average. The cap has a plastic cork. Although this is not a limited edition, but quite common rum produced in large series, each bottle has its own number.
Rum has a beautiful honey color.
The aroma smells of dried fruits, caramel, spices (especially cinnamon) and woody tones. There is no taste in sweetness.
The taste is quite full, but delicate. It's not sweet. On the palate you can smell dried fruit, caramel and oak wood again. A pleasant finish on the tongue with a medium-term aftertaste.
Overall rating: 7.5 out of 10.
A good rum from a distillery I personally visited and is state of the art for Dominican Rep. All respect for Barcelo rum.
Not at all an experienced rum drinker, just getting into it, but enjoyed the smoothness of this one! Quite dry, and a tinge smokey - which goes just fine with a nice cigar.
While I was not expecting a full-bodied bomb from this rum, I found it to be lacking in a variety of aspects. So first, and to get this straight out of the way, no major flaws nor off-flavours. However, the aroma was very faint and simple, caramel, vanilla but not much going on at all. The palate was as "smooth" as it was dull and uninteresting. Nothing going on. Some mild leather, wood and molasses. Otherwise, homeopathically thin body, just nothing to focus on really, it's not offensive to drink -again, no off flavours- but just not that many flavours either. I'll give it a 6 because I'd feel bad to give it a 5.
Quite nice. Try it. Tasty spirit and not too seeet.
Very tasty with woody and caramel flavour. Fine and easy to drink.
I was quite surprised when I tasted this rum. I thought it would be some what like the most cheaper rums (€25,-) but this r was definitely worth more than what it is sold for. Best compared to Flor de Caña 18 years.

The nose is light and gentle.
"It’s quite nicely balanced but just a little bit too nice."

Na prvý pohľad zaujme fľaša, ktorej budíkový tvar s logom vyzerá exkluzívne. (asi to ovplyvnilo aj mňa :)). Vôňa nie je zaujímavá, drevitá - dubová. Rum je suchý s prenikavou drevitou chuťou, jemne korenistý s nadýcham tabaku a jablka. Dochuť je trpká až jemne horká. Príjemne zahreje. Celkovo ma veľmi neoslovil, mám radšej jemne násladle rumy, tento mi silne pripomína až whisky.
