Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.
This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

I much prefer Ron Zacapa 23, XO or Ron Centenario 20 for their fuller flavor and smoothness. Santa Teresa 1796 has considerably less body, smoothness, and comes across as “dry”.
Disappointed in this bottle, it has less body than similar priced brands. There is a distinct aftertaste that is slightly burned.
This is a delicious rum from start to finish. Somewhat sweet with nice butterscotch tones to it. Does make my tongue tingle. This is my go-to Rum. This is in my top 5 with Vizcaya VXOP , Plantation XO 20th Anniversary, Zafra 21 and Kirk and Sweeney 23 as my official sipping rums.
This is another great rum to come out of Venezuela. It has a really nice balance and lends itself to be a really nice sipper. It is also my go to for a whiskey forward cocktail when I want to substitute I a good rum!
It is not a sipping rum by any means, it is a good rum to be mixed with coke.
I was expected way much more from this Rum.
When I was given one bottle I was very exited so greater was my deception.
Good nose but the ethanol is too strong to really appreciate the aromas, which seems interesting passed the ethanol. I read it in some previous comments, not all, so maybe it is not an issue on all the bottles.
I first tried this in Florida and have had it several times since. Maybe it was the beach atmosphere or the nice plantain and oak flavor, either way I love this rum!
The Rum Barrel Review
"On the nose there’s a lovely dark profile. Fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, plums. There are some tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit, followed by a slight grassy note. Nutmeg, old leather, tobacco and white pepper. On the palate it goes down so easy. Milk chocolate, vanilla, honey, mango, toffee and cashews. Canned pineapple, blackcurrant, coconut cream and coca cola. The tobacco note is back along with some cinnamon. Not crazy sweet, fairly well balanced and easy going. Cocoa butter and orange marmalade. Towards the end is where you get a bit more oak spices and some alcohol heat. The finish is short with cocoa nibs, some oak tannins and maple syrup."
Has a nice light sweet vanilla note.
"Spicy notes and a oaky lavour are very pleasant and not overpowering."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
