Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

In my opinion the only drawback is the price, to expensive. But again, good taste!

I think this rum is a little bit overrated. It is definitely a good sipping rum but for the price of about 55€ I have expected a bit more (fortunately I could buy it on sale for 30% off). When pouring it into a nosing glass it first smells for me a bit like turpentine. This goes away after some minutes. Then you can smell a bit of vanilla and toffee. It is smooth without alcoholic sharpness. You can't do anything wrong with it, it is drinkable every day and it is a good and sweet rum. If it is worth it's price, I don't know.

This rum is extremely smoothe and tastes best on the rocks. It doesn't have a harsh burn or after taste.

Good rum, I was expecting a bit more based on the price and on other reviews, but still not bad. Not too sweet, not too strong.

Ron Zacapa 23 is a really nice rum. This is the rum, which brought me into the rum drinking hobby. And so for that I'm very grateful. But my taste preferences changed a bit...

This rum is pretty much Santa Teresa with added sugar. I thought about giving it the same score (9), but the more I thought about it, the more I realized the added sugar hinders the overall experience. It's not too sweet (looking at you Diplomatico Reserva), but still I find the sweetness a bit distracting. On the other hand, I also like sweeter rums from time to time and so do many people. It's a quality rum with just the right touch of complexity.

I recommend this rum to anyone just starting in rum drinking or just looking for a sweetened (but not too sweet) and interesting rum. A really nice product.
