Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

So here's the deal this is a yell of a sipper rum but not a 23 year old taste then I find out it's been flavored so that hurts but in the end it works.
Not a bad rum, and perfectly drinkable. Here in Japan, if a bar has a decent rum, it is usually Zacapa. And if this is all the bar has, I'll drink it. I've even owned a couple bottles when I was just starting out with rum. My biggest complaint is that, while it is good, it is way overpriced. You can find so much better rum for less money.
Its overrated, sweet, not really 23 years old, blah blah blah... goes the critics. I enjoyed it for what it is. May prefer others at this price point.
Nice rum! Good colour, but too sweet. Could be more balanced. It seems that it is artificially sweetened for marketing reasons: North American market? The Edición Negra is some better.
One of the best sipping rums you can buy, it’s not hard to see why Zacapa has won so many awards! Anyone that says otherwise is a moron.
Smokey coffee taste and very nutty, while being quite sweet, just beautiful.
Sweet like molasses! My favourite rum under a hundred dollars.
This was a very rich and smooth rum.
Balanced, with a sharp nose of vanilla and spices.
The initial sip was smooth and as it warmed, it began to shine.
Although mixable, I would recommend against distorting this rum.
I was expecting more from this one. It has a good color but very simple flavors. Just an average one.
This is a great mid-level rum, and introduction into solera rums. Very stable and approachable. No complaints, nothing out of this world either.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Nice on the pallet. Soft brown sugar, banana, and caramel. Taste very artificial on the pallet. Not gross by any means. A great bottle to gift someone else.
