Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Dark colour, strong oaky smell, caramel taste and a smooth full aftertaste. Its a good rum to sip on for a while.
Very popular, however full of aditives, sugar and so on.
This I could drink all day. One of the best sipping rums ever. No burn at all.
This is not a bad rum. But... I was hoping for a real competitor to Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Zacapa pales in a side-by-side taste test.
Received this as a gift and was not disappointed. Great quality and sweet notes that fit perfectly with a cigar. However, it may be a bit sweet for some. Subtracted a point because it's flavoured and not pure, but still a great product overall.
Nice, rich and oaky rum. I'd rather said too oaky. Strong vanilla and cardamon bite from the glass. overly sweet, but good to start with, if you used to sip whiskey/brandy.
It can't work well, if you are going to mix it. It's not bad nor ugly. This one is good enough to be a gift for someone important (maybe yr boss), but in search of the better sipping experience and love for Zacapa - go for "Limitada Reserve".
Not the right choice, overrated liquer, sweet.....
Lot more flavor than would expect at 40%. Smooth and tasty.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Odeur de caramel, vanille, et un goût à l'identique, légèrement boisé. Jolie rondeur, une belle longueur en bouche, mais le sucre vient un peu gâcher la fête. Dommage.
Some caramel and vanilla smell, which are also un the taste, with some wood too. A round and "comfortable rhum, but the sugar just spoils the pleasure. Unfortunately.
