Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Hodnocení: Nedoporučuji začátečníkům! Panáka tohoto rumu jsem poprvé ochutnal jednou v hospodě (zdravím aoe scénu) ve značně pokročilém stádiu opilosti. I tak mi ale zůstal v hlavě (i po těch pivech jsem poznal, že prostě chutná jinak než všechno, co jsem do té doby pil) a byl jsem rozhodnut si jednou koupit celou láhev. Když pak nastal ten den a já v klidu ochutnal čerstvě otevřenou láhev, tak jsem byl zklámán. Žádná výrazná chuť, nuda, proč to stojí tolik... V té době jsem nebyl schopen to docenit.

Dnes si tento rum nemohu vynachválit. Přijde mi, že v sobě spojuje hodně dobrých vlastností ostatních rumů. Mísí v sobě spoustu chutí (vanilka, káva, kakao ...), z nichž žádná vyloženě nevyčnívá. Stejně tak se nachází přesně na pomezí mezi hořkostí a sladkostí. Má výrazný dozvuk a přitom si zachovává naprostou jemnost (toto slovo Zacapu charakterizuje asi nejlépe).
Až postupem času (a pitím ostatních rumů) jsem přišel na to, proč je zrovna tento tak vychvalován. To, jak v sobě dokázal skloubit spoustu vlastností (některé z nich protikladné), je obdivuhodné.
It's not a bad rum. Has some nice flavours and aroma for a 23 Solera style (probably nearer 6-8 years old and perhaps depending on the blend maybe pushing to 12) but please stop the marketing crap. Although if you want to laugh out loud you might as well read it all :)
Actually quite dry and oaky.

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Not bad on the rocks. A little sweeter than I prefer and that sometimes covers up some more desireable subtle notes. Not as complex as others.
