Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

RZ23 is on the mark. Nice aroma. Easy on the palette. I have noticed that the sweetness varies depending on where the palette starts. Much preferred with a rock.
this is a winner for sipping. one of taking the time to appreciate the taste. its tasty and smooth but not too sweet which for a refined palette is refreshing. mixed reviews on here possibly due to high expectations as its a pricey rum, maybe a little overpriced?
I'm a fan of solera rums, and this is no exception. It's a bit sweeter than I might like, but it's forgivable. I've heard a rumor that when you tour the Bacardi plant, you may see it up on the shelf in the office - apparently, they'd love to figure out what Zacapa did and do it themselves.
After years of other rums, this was a pleasant surprise for me. I'll continue my search for the perfect rum (what's good to me).
Sweet nectar of the gods! Molasses, cinnamon, dark sugar cane, every pleasant sweet flavor you can imagine is captured in this bottle. I like it better than the more expensive XO bottle. I've been enjoying a sip of this wonderful rum after dinner each night, and I sleep so well!
But fine!
I just don't understand how it was "worlds best" for so many years.
Good rum with an intensity and smoothness. Soft delicate and honey like smoothness
New to rum, but had this recently and it piqued my interest. Started trying different rums but this has been the best. Enjoy it. New to this page and will be reading a lot an look forward to reading others reviews and trying some of the top picks.
As I usually begin sipping and end up mixing, this rum didn't fullfill my expectations. Pure it was drinkable, not wow at all. Most 10yo+ rums I have tried are better than this. And never try to mix it, it makes a terrible cuba libre. For sipping ok, for mixing not.
Being far more expensive than Diplomatico RE, Cubay 10, Medellin 12 and not half as tasty and only being good for sipping I can't give it more than a 6.
Had to review this rating after a second try and lowered my score from 6 to 5, gonna use it for cooking if I can't find someone who likes it to give it away. Miles away from Diplomatico RE or Varadero 15 and for mixing it is really terrible or even worse than terrible. My biggest deception after paying such a high price
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
