Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

At its price it's a very well made rum and delivers a satisfying sipping experience with sweetness, warmth, caramel, bitter-sweet chocolate and raisins. Good value and certainly worth a try.
nez bannane flambe, caramel ,vanille , gourmand.
bouche gourmand et pâtissier caramel foncé très vite rataper par le boiser a la première gorgée, moins au suivante qui s estompe et fait revenir une longueur sur les fruit , légèrement poivré , fini sur le miel crémeux assez longtemps
Bit sweet but a very drinkable rhum. A welcomed addition to most rhum cabinets.
Un excelente ron para disfrutar puro o en las rocas. Sería un sacrilegio mezclarlo. Fácil de tomar, en boca dulce con toques de higo, caramelo y frutos secos. Vale la pena.

Sweet and spicy taste. Close to being my favourite so far. Need some more comparing the taste... ;-)
The best on the Zacapa 23 Solera is it's smell. The taste is good, but good means nothing special. What I do not like, is that alcoholic afterburn, which I didn't expected. It's often compared to Diplomatico RE, because they are in the same prize level (at least here in Czech Republic), but for me, DIplomatico RE is much higher. I would compare Zacapa 23 Solera with for ex. El Dorado 12 in the terms of this alcoholic afterburn, but El dorado costs 25% less. This means, the bottle is a bit overprized.
73/100
Great aromas present themselfs straigh from the moment the cork is popped! Great sipping on the rocks but better with a dash of cola
I can't say enough good things about this rum, I love the mouthfeel...almost like syrup. HUGE Bold flavor, I never understood the ''leather'' comment until this bottle. When I smell the glass after its gone it smells like my old baseball glove covered in honey while smoking a swisher sweet lol. Some people say this is too sweet but I can't say that, the huge flavors and alcohol burn definitely balance this one out. Finished the bottle in 3 sittings and can't wait to compare to the xo. Tried with Ice but it hides too much of the flavor.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

It was my first good rum I have drunk, but it is not worth the money it has strong taste and definitely not a aged rum because of Solera method.
