Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Thought it was an amazing rum when my palate was not used to good rums. It can be sipped by itself with ice, but there are other rums that cost less and taste better than this.

Nice caramel color, oak and floral flavors forward and a smooth balanced finished with what seems like a taste of vanilla and cinnamon on the finish.

This is my favourite rum. I don't sip a lot of rums straight but this one I enjoy.

It is a bit overpriced in my opinion. But a quality rim with a beautiful deep rich colour..

N- Grape jam, follow by lush of rich compote dried fruits, salted plum, sweet spiced sherry, cafe latte and overripe apricot/peach. Jammy rich but elegantly weighted with finesses, powerful on nose but not over masculine. Still agile with well integration of fruits, spices and wood. (23/25)

P- Deliciously dark and bold nectar that taste dried hawthorn and monk fruits, baked apple pie, chocolate. Velvet texture, rounded with lightly oxidize sherry tartness. (23/25)

F- Medium, dark sweetened herbal tea, generous coats of sweet spice, cinnamon, semi dry crispness with drift of mild spiciness. (21/25)

Balanced:- Nice work to combine all the goodies at 40% abv,, a benchmark that up for others to challenge. Excellent price/quality ratio. (23/25)

Weighted Rate:- 90pt

It's very expensive for what it is. This is a very dark rum, and they've twisted the wording to sell it as a 23 year aged rum. It's not a true aged rum. The body leaves little to the imagination, burnt oak, caramel and molasses. Like gingerbread. Loses a point for the sneaky label deception.

I don't know what some people are looking for, but I find this one quite appealing. not as sweet as some but just delicious to me.
