Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera is one of the most famous rums - especially among rookies - and there is a really good reason for this.
First of it has a nice nose to it - has a welcoming harmless smell.
When you drink it it has a silky smooth feel and taste. Vanilla, honey and various notes of very light spices. Color is a combination of honey and caramel and looks great.
For the beginner this one and Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva would be my recommendations - to give an immediate taste for more.
But! - and there is a but - for the intermediate or geeky rum drinker this rum will probably taste of too much sugar, too little alcohol to make it full enough. It gets even worse if you tasted some of the older Zacapas or if you had the black label or white label ones.
Perfect for beginners - harder and harder to love when you know what you’re doing :-)
It's nice, that's true. It's smooth, that's true. It's the best in the world, that's not true. I think before this was bought by Diageo and turned into the brand that it is now, it was probably an incredible rum. Now you can almost taste that mass produced finish. There's also some serious added sugar. It's just way, way too smooth and sweet for a 23 year old (which it's not) rum. There's so little complexity. Again, it's a rum you would give to someone who said they didn't like rum or who you were trying to encourage into rum (except a whiskey drinker).
Rum má peknú hnedú jantárovú farbu, typickú rumovú vôňu so stopami po karamele, orieškoch a dubovom sude niekde veľmi v pozadí.
Good Color overall- little darker would also be nice. The nose is interesting and the taste is enjoyable.
A nice rum to drink straight up. Smooth and a very nice taste.
It is very hard to fault Zacapa on complexity with this one. However, it is partially hidden behind 25 to 30 grams of sugar per liter, and I really look forward to trying some of their more upscale rums, in order to experience more of that wonderful dried banana at the end. It is not the smoothest ride, but contains enough depth to really be considered a great sipper. The sugar is the only thing that brings it down to a 7 for me, sadly. A fantastic rum, nonetheless.
Good taste but for the price it's a bit over rating rum. I taste better! But it's a good one. You have to taste it one time in your life!
Best rum i had so far. One of the few rums i had wich i would drink straight up. The smell is soft and a bit sweet. The taste is amazing, no hard alcohol taste but i light sugary.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Zeer lekker, lichte honingsmaak. Gedronken met coca cola.
