Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I like the colour and the taste... I enjoy it and its okay. On the other hand it is overpriced and overratted. I would say zacapa 23 is perfect start entering the rum world.

I have a handfull of all time favorites and this is one of them.
I love the sweet honey taste and can recommend this rum to anyone starting to drink rum.

Great for sipping, and makes for a high-end mixed drink when combined with ginger beer (fever tree).

Semisweet, layered, and fairly complex, providing a smooth, rich mouth-feel. Some sherry influence for sure, helping dark fruit and prune flavors to evolve.

Latin-American style sweets for sure, and not a true 23 year old rum. I still have no complaints, as it is special for many a friend when they come visit. It is an all around excellent mixer, too.

Was given a bottle by a friend while on St Martins... Not a fan of the type of sweet flavor but respect the quality.

This is the rum that I compare all other rum to. It's so balanced and tasty.

At first: I like this rum. Many of my friends has a bottle at home. But it tastes “usually” but also good. For this is a little bit over.
Nice smell with vanilla, toffee and caramel aroma. Taste is “sugary” enough, smooth enough but more alcoholic with a little bit alcoholic tail.
Very good rum and standard or the best rum for most.

I'm no expert and is just beginning to explore the world of rum. Bought this as one of the starter rums to taste, as it's sweet and easy to sip, and I must say that it's just that. For me I say it's currently a good rum, but not as complex as other rums I have tasted. But as I mentioned I'm still a beginner, so this review might change over time :-)
