Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Great taste. Hints of oak and maple. Had this at a run bar but will purchase a bottle soon.

This one used to be among my favorites when I started in rum tasting, and before I discovered Malteco, also from Guatemala.
Zacapa is more popular, but, for me, the Zacapa 23 is not as well balanced and not as smooth as the Malteco.
It is thinner and less voluminous than other rums. There is a clear barrique note.

To přiznávám :-)

Yes. This is sweet but thats why I selec rom not cognac. Some seems to be angry about production how this is made. Not familiar but taste good to me. This 23 Solera is the one I compare to new ones. Found Quorhum 23 and Ron de Jeremy XO equal.

A bit sweet aroma of caramel, vanilla, roasted nuts and oak. Complex flavor, mild spiced with touches of tropical fruit, cinnamon, ginger, coffe...
Very nice

Tmavý rum, vůně dřeva, ovoce. Nečekaně ostrý, ale docela sladký. Přesto, nijak zvlášť nezaujal.

Found in my local Swiss supermarket and elsewhere - rather sweet, lacking in any real character, totally over-rated, would not buy again, cannot understand the general love for this one.

One of the rums that I usually do not offer to my ladies visitors. A bit stronger, oak, coffee and tobacco. Nice dark deep color.
Awesome rum!
