Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This rum gets mixed reviews here. I find it quite nice and enjoyable, a beginner's rum maybe.
Smaken är god, men spritig. Den ligger ungefär i samma prisklass som Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva och Plantation 20th Anniversary XO men den når inte riktigt upp till dem.
Great sipping rum. Not too sweet or overwhelmingly strong. Delicious!
Dobry, chutny rum. Sladka chut, ktora je az likerova.
Aroma starts with a hint of maple (flavoring)? Not a terrible rum. I would not sip regularly but would not turn it down.
A friend introduced to me to the rum adventure with a bottle of this one. Nice and lean, sweet(witch i like). Smokey oak caramel and vanilla. Easy sipping! Edicion negras little brother. Nice!!
Nice nose and no real bite at first sip. Agree it is a bit sweet with a flat, deep taste. An exceptional mixer with citrus or ginger ale though not as good with a coke. Most rum fans, not critics, will find this a great rum. I will keep it in my bar but did expect more to it based on other reviews.
Bought two times in one mont for 40 euro.
The smell it' s fantastic, so sweet and deep.
On the palate you have sugar cane, i feel honey and some wood due to the agement.
Perfect to drink neat or with 1/2 ice cubes.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

It is easy to drink and quite cheap so good for a starter. It is missing complexity and tastes a bit overwatered.
