Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

It is easy to drink and a sweet starter run but quickly becomes a bit boring
For those who don’t know rum, this is the best for starting to drink rum on the rocks. It’s dark and sweet with just a little bite to remind you that you are drinking a spirit. Absolutely delightful!
Smooth and sippable. Introduced to me by a friend when I was convinced I didnt like rum. I think he just cost me a lot of money.
Il est vrai qu'il y ajout de sucre et glycérine.... mais c'est tellement rond et bon.
First thing I get in the nose is oak then sweet sugar. Vanilla and perhaps hints of caramel. Alcohol as well.
The flavor is sweet but I don't find it cloying. Vanilla and oak come through in the flavor and some other intangibles I can't put my finger on. Warming but not at all hot.
I find this easy to sip. Not a purists rum by any means but it wouldn't be hard to drink for the majority of the populace. I judge it for what it is, a fine wide appeal rum that is easy to sip and enjoy if we don't try to compare it with a fine unadulterated Jamaican or Bayan rum.
I guess what I don't like is that it's not transparent in it's additives. We need to understand the difference between what unadulterated rum and what sugar added rum is.
I find this a bit overpriced for what it is when we can buy many other fine Jamaican and Bayan rums for almost half the cost, but it is flavorful and I enjoyed it. A couple of ounces over a cube of ice makes a fine end to an evening.
Light, smooth. Faint caramel and vanilla tones. My favorite so far.
Yes it is Rom, with much alcohol so let et be in the glass for the normal 15 min before tasting. Then it will open a bit, but not worth Any money. Have har cheeper tasting better.
Got a chance to test this rum with some friends. This rum is dominated by sweet notes of caramel and vanilla and these continue from the nosing through the palate to the finish. These flavor notes are quite present, but this is done in a rather monotonous way, so the rum lacks diversity and complexity. One can find many discussions and articles about this rum regarding sweeteners and other additives. As I am looking for non-sugared rums I would not recommend that rum to my friends. If you do not mind about such factors and love sweet rums you may enjoy the Zacapa Solera 23.
Great smell in the glass, especially after sitting for a minute - smells of vanilla over a woody scent. Good sipping rum, though there is a hint of a flavor around the edges that I don't always desire.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

vôňa tohto rumu veľmi predbieha jeho chuť, nie je zlý, ale po privoňaní očakávate aj v ústach podobný level.
