Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

For those of us that love rum - the rich flavour and smooth aftertaste is best savoured on the rocks. A great addition to my collection
A beautiful amber colour, and quite a sweet drop. Tasty neat or on ice and wouldn't waste with mixers. I prefer this to Ron Zacapa XO - smoother and more palatable if you're going to have a couple of glasses.
This is the first high-end rum I tried. At first, it was perfect, not too strong and with a great after taste. In mouth, is sweet but super smooth due to the fact that this rum is made using the βvirgin honeyβ and not molasses like most rums. In nose you can also tell that it is a sweet rum.
I add a cube of ice to reduce the sweetness.
First rum years back - rated rather average today - but OK way back then I guess ...
Bottle looks good. Not a true aged rum, but the story and idea are good to tell to people who do not have a rum background. Not a bad taste. Kind of middle of the road for me.
A gorgeously complex and sweet rum, but not overly sweet as others have suggested. Lots of flavours going on : Sherry, Bourbon, figs, raisins smoke and oak. Just a joy to sip on this neat.
Sugar, sugar, sugar - if this is your first real rum experience no wonder people associate one-legged pirates with rum. Sugar overload, not an authentic rum. Made for masses and it sells. Buy some real Jamaican, Barbadian or an agricole instead :)
I found Run Zacapa's taste and quality definitely superior to other same age and similar price tag run.
Nice combination of flavors and sweetness, with a final nice touch of oak and enchanting good smell
Zacapa 23 was the first rum I tried and one on my favourites - rich caramel, warmth and vanilla undertones make it smooth and comforting.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Not too expensive, and worth every penny though. Delicious.
