Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Original review was 8/10: Not as sweet as Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, Mount Gay Rum Extra Old Rum is still a fine choice for sipping. Wish I could give it 7.5 as I do prefer sweeter rums. Your taste buds may say otherwise.
UPDATE: After months of reading and sampling many different rums and styles, I get it: this is rum. Pure. High Quality Rum.
Sweet, smooth and subtile with oaky finish. A fine addition to my collection.
This is my 1st sample of the Mount Gay XO. Not overly sweet, nice color and smooth!
First thoughts, love the color, nice aroma, smells sweet. First sip, a little heat, a lot of wood, slowly finishes with a sweetish finish. I like the rum but donโt love it. To me, it misses in the middle, lacking of the smoothness that I really am drawn to. Good rum fair value.

I use this rum as a benchmark... same as british colony rums... you can feel the alcohol. Iโd definitely buy it again
