Grab your cigar and take a few hours off. If you are with your best friends, sure share this rum. It is full of flavor and smooth. Just don't bring it out in a party, it's too good to share with others.

Mount Gay XO Reserve Cask!
Quick review-
On the nose- Ginger, tropical fruit and wood
First sip- π£wowww! Impossibly smooth. I'm getting a slight hint of molasses followed by dried fruit, vanilla, oak and at the end it really hits you with tobacco. I'm really blown away with the balance of this rum. Not too sweet for the rum purists, not too dry for the sweet lovers. A perfect example of balance in every way.
On the finish you get a pleasant, warm burn with more of the tobacco lingering on the tongue. A truly exceptional dram. If you want to taste a real quality rum with less additives than the other brands and a good price, then this is a must buy for any lover of fine spirits! Enjoy!

Perfect balance sweet and spicy. More on the spicy side
Very woody. Some may appreciate that, but presently, such woodiness is not my thing.
Relatively new to sipping rums but this is one of my favorites so far. I understand why people say this would appeal to scotch drinkers as the flavors are reminiscent of scotch to me. Reasonably priced too.
Hello all!
This is my first review, since i'm new to this web site and also to liquors.
I used to be a red wine drinker only. So, for me, that was about it on the alcohol department.
But since november 2017, a bran new universe open to me : Rums! So far, I drank a dozen of rums. I wanted to wait after several bottles of different kind of rum and level of quality to be able to compare and give a worthy rating.
Like 90% of the rum drinkers, i did the same mistakes as a newbie : buying the cheapest stuff available and try to sip it :) Then i realized that i needed to try better quality to really enjoy it.
Mount Gay XO is my eighth rum. From that point of view, i can say that i finally have a bit of understanding what complexity and smoothness really mean. Wow!
Nose, i get a VERY smooth smell of molasse, toffee and oak. I dont feel the usual strong alcohol agression that many popular cheap rums usualy have. So thats very nice!
Palate : The first sip is surprisingly strong on the oak. Its very woody, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your liking. I immediately notice that it is surprisingly very smooth! And without added sugar. Also there is no alcohol burn after swallowing. Wow! Only a delicate touch of toffee, molasse and a vague presence of spice. The oak is dominant though.
Finish : a delicate blend of Toffee, vanilla and spice on the tongue. The taste stay in the mouth several minutes after swallowing. I like that stuff! I give it a 7.7 and the only reason that i dont give a 8.5 is because i would prefer with just a little bit less of oak. But, over all, that's great stuff! The second best so far.

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Mount Gay Distilleries boast of being the oldest one in the world. This is not only a marketing move but every sip of this rum confirms that generations of roneros in Barbados have gathered enough experience how to make a great rum. An excellent choice for brandy and cognac lovers, the taste is very smooth, wood plays the major role. 85%
