Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

good smooth rum better then Black Bartell version, for mé little bit to dry, i prefer sweeter rums
I have mixed feelings about this one. It is the absolutely non sweetest rum I have ever tried. Maybe the lack of sugar is nice, it makes it taste strong, could be smoother sincerely. Smells very good, but drinking straight is difficult for me. As a mixer it is too expensive and sincerely others perform better mixing. Definitely a rum for sipping for people who don't like sweet at all.
Sadly, I have not found nothing special in this rum. Yes, it is a good one, but easy to forget.
I’m not a massive neat rum drinker so I do mix this however its my current favourite for Dark and Stormys, mixed with Saxbys Ginger Beer, some butters and a slice of lime.
This drink needs a smooth rum to work and Mount Gay XO delivers 100%. Great smooth, Rich (but not overly so) flavour and I have demolished a bottle with a couple of friends way quicker than expected and need to buy a refill. A must for any rum drinker
Much more gentle than its smaller brother. Not very sweet and more gentle - no smokiness. Nice vanilla and even more noticeable in long end
by far one of my favorite rums. very smooth with an even better taste. will be keeping this stocked for a very long time.
I picked this up late at night from somewhere that didnt have a very good rum selection so I figured I'd try it. It is definitely better than a cheaper rum, being that you can sip it without problem but it definitely has a harsh bite, and not very sweet.
Toured the distillery two years ago. Tried this product and am now a big fan. Recently purchased the 1703 Old cask. Same flavor profile but for the value you can't beat the XO,
'ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla, pastry and...'
"Mount Gay Extra Old rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Deze smaakt eerder naar een cognac of een whisky. Voor mezelf niet zacht genoeg.Twee glaasjes geprobeerd en weggeven.
