El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

JA
had this rum recently

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

I dunno... Maybe it's because I hammered a McDonald's milkshake prior to my glass of rum, BUT I had higher hopes for this one. I mean it's good, but I think I prefer it's younger sibling (12 year), which I rated a 9 and is 50% cheaper. Too bad I'm out of that one so I can't compare side to side. Still a big fan of El Dorado though!

El Dorado 15 years, is quite a nice rum, very ok for an evening wih friends, still it didn't mark me as exceptional. Deserves a second chance though, so I will have another sip one day to see if my opinion changes..
update: I took another sip yesterday, it was a 7 now I rather think 8: wood, caramel anr raspberry/strawberry in the nose. Sweet , but really worth a go.

Like everything, Spirits and Rums are gonna be subjective to an extent! After all, we have different taste buds no? Which brings me to this El Dorado: Consistently yummy! Smooth. Sweet. Nutty. Caramel. And a great bargain! Definitely a staple in my Bar!

Best chilled. Smooth Amber rum heard great reviews and had to try it. Worth the money.

This bottle was recommended and I tried it. Definitely not disappointed. The nose is a treat with orange, vanilla, and definite smoky notes. The flavor is not overly sweet and has some spice on the front end and dark fruit with a hint of vanilla on the back end. This is a solid sipper.

I try to imagine what this could be with less added suger. It has has great taste and profile. The finish is smooth but dominated by suger.

Even tho this rum is from Guyana, there are Spanish influences to go along with the dry English style. Dark in color, rich on the nose.
Fruits, cacao, brown sugar, arrack, nuts, a small hint of vanilla and barrel.

So far my favorite Guyanese rum.
