I picked this up based on the 8.1 ranking it had. I’d had the Mantuano before and thought it was decent. Figured this would be a step up. I was wrong.

If you like a sweeeeeet rum, this one is for you. It’s only a few steps from being a liqueur. And when the sweetness isn’t overpowering you, the alcohol will. When I focus my tastebuds I can get some dried fruit and a hint of caramel. But mostly just alcohol and sugar.

Maybe, just maybe, it would be good for a novice to learn to drink rum neat, but that’s pushing it. After dinner digestif at best, in my opinion.

Fist: yes, this is sweet. I like sweet.

If you like Zacapa 23, you will like this. It is my first choises (together with Zacapa) when introducing new people to rumdrinking.
As a bonus: Zacapa have bacomming wildly known the last few years. Every decent bar and liquershop got it, and if someone approches you and say that the have just started drinking rum, you can be sure its because they have tasted zacapa. Diplomatico on the other hand is still a hidden gem for you to show them. Bonus for really cool bottle.

Great, smooth rum. Perfect for sipping.
Also really good in drinks, if you can afford to waste it.

The price is absolutly not bad, so this is one of my "everyday rums" (the other is Eldorado 15).

An excellent rum easy to appreciate. Soft flavours, not too complex. I recommend it to get you started on a rum journey.

Not at the top of my list and not for everyone, but a very solid addition to any cabinet. This is probably easier for a casual whiskey drinker looking for a rum they'd enjoy.

Basically a liqueur. All in all not bad but too sugary for me

Spicy, but with a lot of bite. I felt a little smoked honey as well.

I tried this rum after lurking in the discussion board for entry rums. This rum is sweet and best with ice or a water back. There's flavor of molasses. I noticed if I am sipping on this slow, the flavor changes and becomes a bit more potent. Overall, great entry rum and easy to serve neat.
