I got it because of the awesome reviews. I'll admit I like my rum sweeter (sweetness differentiates rum from most other liquor) and with less alcohol burn at the end. I don't really like whiskey for that reason. This reminds me out a whiskey. It's definitely doesn't have the burn, of a whiskey just doesn't really feel like a rum. For comparison I very much liked Santa Teresa 1795 which didn't feel as harsh.
I nice and sweet rum, which is very easy to drink.
The bootle looks like genuine rare ron. Colours are beautiful. Nose and mouth are great and send a lot of different flavors, all very gready. A very good ron, perfect to discover rhum's world. But... you must know that it is not a "natural" rhum. A lot of extra sugar have been added (more than 40g/l) and probably vanillin. So make your choice: the taste and the feelings or the authenticity.
I’m not overly keen on this truth be told. Don’t get me wrong it’s not vile, by any stretch. I just believe it does not live up to all the hype that comes with it. The main reason for my negativity, is the fact that when drinking this, it reminds me of drinking Jack Daniels. It even smells like a cheap whiskey! Drank neat, it is velvety smooth with some sweetness, and the alcohol burn isn’t to harsh either, to be fair, which is all positive. But after experiencing the initial delights of Diplomático, your tastebuds are then assaulted by a strange smoky, woody aftertaste, which is not so positive, the part that reminds me of the JD. Diplomático can be enjoyed as a sipping rum for sure, but for me personally, I enjoyed this better when I mixed it with Coca-Cola. Then that oaky, whiskey aftertaste isn’t quite as dominant and of course, it becomes much sweeter. In summary, if you are partial to a whiskey every now and again and like your rums on the sweeter side, you will absolutely love Diplomático. However if you have similar tastes to myself and don’t like whiskey, I’d definitely recommend that you think twice before purchasing this rum.
Great rum, a little on the sweet side but enjoyable, I would rather have a zacapa 23 or Centenario 20.
Smooth finish. Great on the rocks. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Great value rum. Refined vanilla caramel flavours to enjoy on a Christmas Eve. $65 CAD
This is a great sipping rum but I believe it is overrated. Go with barrilito or pussers instead.
"The palate evokes chocolate sauce and the sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose"
"The nose is dominated by notes of caramel, toffee and crème. On the back end of the aromas, I can detect a hint of smoke and pineapple"

Smells sweet. It is fruity, oranges, grapes and raisins with scents of chocolate and a sweet almost syrupy.
"The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. ."

Delicate and inviting aroma. Slight burn on the tongue. Sweet. Good rum but not excellent.
