Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

I have been a rum drinker my whole adult life, and now that I have past the 70 mark I seem to have mellowed. This may not be the best I have ever tasted, but it has that calm, fruity, hint-of-honey character that makes it perfect for sipping while stretching your legs in an easy chair in the tropical evening breeze.

ok, but not memorable. Not the best Angostura IMO.

It was a present. I find the vanilla smell too much. Not very interesting compares to a nice Longpond rum. Have to get rid of it now.

Compared to so other similar Rums Angostura 1919 would be a winner, but within other Angostura products it is just average. Easy entry product for everyone.

One of the first aged rums I tasted as a lot of people. I still appreciate it. Of course it is certainly altered (at least with a bit of sugar...) but it does not taste as fake as plenty of other excessively sweetened (and expensive) """ premium""" rums on the market. Sweet but not sickly sweet. Not very complex but quite balanced while still a lot of flavours to enjoy. All in all, a good rum in this price range.

I prefer 1919 on the rocks as it helps tame the alcohol bite and really opens up tis rum.

This rum is rather special considering the price and availability, top quality flavour for drinking straight, slightly drier than the HC7, with a slightly edge of cocoa, bitter caramel and oak. Tastes so smooth mixed with pepsi, revealing toffee, caramel, coconut, cocoa and oak flavours. Interestingly this is one rum that goes a little Jekyll and Hyde when mixed with Coke Cola, it tastes like strong tannic wood/saw dust and highly bitter.

Highly recommended premium rum, just consider how you use it carefully.

Quite pleasant aromatic and easy drinking rum. For beginners and everyone.

Aromatic nose of vanila, fudge, and sweet spices
Quite easy drinking, round, smooth dominated by vanila and caramel flavors

Well made

Sweet rum with caramel and vanilla taste, not surprising but quite good anyway. Easy to drink
