Cihuatan 2005 Single Cask (Switzerland) 15-Year

This bottling is a single cask or single barrel bottling from the distillery Licorera Cihuatan from Venezuela and was bottled for Switzerland. The rum was produced in 2005 in single column style and was allowed to age for 15 years in ex-bourbon barrels. It was bottled with 52.6% alcohol.

On the nose, beautiful typical spicy notes with vanilla and burnt sugar and caramelized fruit. In addition, there is walnut and wood. The rum is toasty and nice and round. On the palate more sweetness with vanilla, burnt sugar and tropical fruit. Served with caramel and chocolate. The rum becomes drier and there is more barrel influence. The finish is then toasted with mocha and dark chocolate. There are light tannins and spice.

A solid rum and good single cask, but then also very unspectacular. The alcohol could be better integrated. Overall, definitely one of the better Cihuatan bottlings, which otherwise stand out mainly due to artificial sweetness. That's not the case here.

Der Rum wurde 2005 im Single Column Style hergestellt und durfte 15 Jahre in Ex Bourbon Fässern lagern. Er wurde mit 52,6% Alkohol abgefüllt.

In der Nase schöne typische würzige Noten mit Vanille und gebranntem Zucker ubd karamellisierter Frucht. Dazu kommt Nuss und Holz. Der Rum wirkt röstig und schön rund. Am Gaumen erstmal mehr Süße mit Vanille, gebranntem Zucker und tropischer Frucht. Dazu Karamel und Schokolade. Der Rum wird trockener und es kommt mehr Fasseinfluss. Der Abgang ist dann röstig mit Mokka und dunkler Schokolade. Es kommen leichte Tannine und Würze.

Ein solider Rum und guter Single Cask der aber dann doch unspektakulär ist. Der Alkohol könnte besser eingebunden sein. Insgesamt definitiv einer der besseren Cihuatan Abfüllungen welche sonst vor allem durch künstliche Süße auffallen. Das Gefühl hatte ich hier weniger.
