Intense aroma, sweet,rich multilayer taste.
12 years rum from Panama , found on my trip. I glad I bougt it.
I like the band so I was really curious how this rum will taste. And in the end: disappointment.
The rum is not bad, sweet taste with oaky and fruity notes, but according to the score here, I was expecting something more special. In the end it is nothing just an overpriced band merch.
I know sugar is added to this one, but I could not stop drinking classic daiquiris with this. Great as a mixer with excellent price point.
Enjoy!
Arrgh! This be a somewhat disappointing rum. On the nose, there be oak and butterscotch in a thick, buttery way, but there also be a hint of sweetness from some fruit that - fetch me up for daft - I cannot identify. There also be a leathery aroma that shows up at the very end, like findin’ out someone has a leather kink about them AFTER you set sail from port and they be asking about cabin boy "positions". On the tongue, she not be sweet, but she not be not sweet either. That first hit on the tongue be as clear and empty as a blue sky in spring. Aye, there be a hint of sweet, but it be like drinkin’ sweet water, not rum. A flurry of flavors attack shortly after that, but none of them be enjoyable, and none of them stay long enough to sort out. There be barely a burn, but nothin’ worth talkin' about. Aye, there be no afterglow with this rum. Ya pay the lady and she be gone like the darkness at dawn - all quick like. I have a 5-year-old powder monkey doin' a better job than this 5-year-old rum. Might this rum be good for sippin’? No. Might this be the worst rum ever? No. There be rums more suitable for cleaning sword wounds, but this rum be just above that. Barely. Might this run be better added to somethin’ else? That not be an option, mate. Get off my ship! Arrgh!

Appearance: clear
Aroma: pine
Flavor: brown sugar and pineapple
Notes : a bit hot, with not much aftertaste. This rum seems bitter, rather than sweet. The label indicates this was blended specifically for mojitos, so one wonders if this is to compensate for the sweet and mint of the mojito.
7 rating because I'm not quite sure what to do with this rum
Bottle purchased from The Bottle Shop in South Park San Diego for $14. Tasted on 7-7-24. Pours clear. Aroma is a faint blend of bubble gum and model car glue. Flavor really grows on you. A beer hop bitterness settles over the sides of your tongue. Oddly pleasant to drink neat, I can’t wait to make mojitos with this as I can see how it would balance out.
A slight bitter edge to a rich sweet rum. Maple syrup, brown sugar, ethanol heat, with spicy finish
Such a great local Rum! North Carolina Rum and North Carolina Basil to make a beautiful product!
What Coconut Rum should taste like! A perfect pairing of flavor and proof.
I saw the reviews and the 7 rating, that suggests to me it is a weak sipper, but hoped you were all wrong. I wanted this to be my summer go to sipper and its not. Can it be sipped neat - yes but with a bit of bite in the nose, on the tongue and the throat. its not clearing my sinuses but that alcohol is not hiding itself. Only mixing was with Sprite which improved the flavor overall. Cheers.
Stumbled into a store doing a bunch of samples and this was one of them. Smell is vanilla forward, taste is spice and coffee forward. Taste was a bit umami probably from the Kola nut (what ever that is) and had a hazelnut vibe to it. Here is the cool part. I had the first sample neat then had with coke and the coke turned the sample into cherry coke. Totally off the chart taste experience. Not a harsh finish and can easily sip. 35% ABV from Sammy Haggar and Rick Springfield. Cheers.
Hardly touched. Not even sure I'd make a cuba libre with this one. How is it on stains?
Love it. Rich and robust. May be my favorite so far.
Have tried several spiced rums from smaller U.K. distilleries, this is definitely up there. Nice colour and smell, does feel very artificially sweet at times, but a has a great flavour. Would recommend to to anyone looking for a U.K. rum. Bottle is a belter as well
Not bad. The taste is dry with a hint of oak, not very sweet and a little bit like orange peels. Maybe it is better for mixed drinks. Light amber color.
Bottle is classic Plantation style, very nice with the cork.
Another bottle of Rum & Cane. A blend of rums from Guatemala and Nicaragua. Light amber color. Slightly sweet. Toffee and vanilla aroma. Perceptible alcohol strength 43%
6,9:The nose is very sweet, orange and vanilla. Like an oriental confection, the rum caresses the nostrils with a pinch of powdered sugar. One might think of a strawberry- or rosewater-flavored Turkish delight. The candied orange peel still contains some of its slightly bitter oil, which adds a little more depth.
Aeration confirms and reinforces the sensation of roundness. The candy sugar is melted and takes on the air of barley sugar. It's also reminiscent of the first bite of strawberry gum.
7:The palate is soft, fluid and quite sweet. The confectionery and bubblegum ambience remains, though one might have expected a stickier texture. The vanilla glides slowly over the tongue, the orange is in tune and forgets any hint of bitterness. On the other hand, a slight spicy, peppery note lifts the whole.
6,2:The finish is very sweet, with strawberry, banana and orange in confectionery form.
...than this rum. I can hardly believe there could be such a variation in ratings as on this rum, and maybe, just maybe it is like cilantro? Just genetically, perhaps some of us are wired to taste something grizzly where others taste something delightful. But I can honestly say I've never tasted any rum so "medicinal" as this. I have had good-tasting Plantation Rum in the past (I don't remember which variation), but this Xaymaca is truly awful to my own taste-buds.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Really nice and complex. Rich dark and spicy. Not too sweet. Love that it’s made locally.
