This rum is a pretty ambitious blend of no less than four molasses rums, two body rums and an additional accent rum. I can definitely taste the vanilla and the dark semi-sweet chocolate, but nothing of the espresso as presented on the website. My wife gave me two Kuleana rums for my birthday last year. It's not bad on its own, but I prefer to use this one in mixed drinks.

I gravitated towards this rum based on its recognizably large presence on the top shelf in every one of Disney's cruise ship bars. It's one of their staples and I find that it goes down just as smooth neat as it does with ice (but I prefer the former).

It has some faint floral notes, but I mostly catch caramel, cranberries, sweet cocoa and ginger. It's best to let this one settle for a few minutes before partaking.

I purchased this in Amsterdam on the recommendation of the AH Riise sales rep. It's purely awful. I'm sure that, at its base, it's rum in some form, but overloaded with vanilla and licorice flavorings. Not at all worth the 79,00 Euros I paid for it and definitely not worth all the effort I went through to find it and buy it.

So much oak in the nose that I gave it away. Vinegar bite and charcoal burn.

Haven't opened yet, but adding this to my cabinet to review in detail later.

Taste - sugar cookie followed by basil, leather, and a charcoal finish

Aroma - overripe pineapple followed by kiwi, herbal tea, and nail polish remover

Taste - fresh mango followed by cucumber, allspice, and a volcanic soil finish

This local Colorado distillery is doing a great job in producing such a high-quality rum with only a three year aging process. The local port barrel finish is much to my liking as it sweetens things up a bit and keeps things more sustainable.

Notes of fresh raspberries, strawberries and ginger. It's like smelling a fistful of fresh earth after a sugar beet harvest (also a well known Colorado thing).

This was another Duty Free acquisition while traveling outside of the United States. I picked it up in Costa Maya for about $40 so it seemed like a good purchase. I think it will be fine to use in a rum punch or something like that, but it's not appealing to sip neat. Pretty standard vanilla notes with sharp after burn.

Dark chocolate, orange zest, cinnamon, hazelnut and tropical fruits in aroma; milk chocolate, raisins, coffee, riped banana, anise, butter and caramel in body; nutmeg, cocoa, cinnamon in pepper in long heating tail.

I suppose it's possible that this rum had already turned before I bought it. It was an impulse buy at the Heathrow Duty Free shop. The substance in this bottle reeked of turpentine and bad merlot. I gifted it to a Verizon tech who really liked the looks of the bottle when he had stopped by to fix our internet.

A gently rocking barrel under pressure at a depth of 42 feet below sea level sounds interesting, but I don't see where isolating a cask of rum from the air above could possibly do anything to improve the flavor. In my opinion, it doesn't. It's a gimmicky aging process that leaves the rum thin and oakish.

It's probably just repackaged Cruzan Spiced, but when you've puked something up before you tend to not give it any benefits of doubt.

Dark chocolate, mocha, roasted fruit, and wood aroma. Heavy palate with dark chocolate, smoke, tropical fruit, and spice. Long, warming finish.

This was my first bottle of K&S and the most I had ever spent on a bottle of rum when I bought it. I was sorely disappointed. Oak upon oak with a side of dry, offending oak. This became last year's white elephant gift at the company holiday party. The scotch fan that took it home was happy.

Nose: Orange peel, vanilla, hint of medicinal note.
Palette: Slightly thin but mellow, primarily oak.
Finish: Long finish of cream and butter with no ethanol or aftertaste.

If you like a woody rum, this is for you. Certainly no sugar here. About worth the price.

Edit: The one-note element of this rum has led me to treat it more as a high-end mixer rather than a low-end sipper. I still recommend it.

A totally "passable" mixer, though only just stands neck-and-neck with some other rums (e.g. Cruzan) that are much cheaper in price. Sipped alone it's an unbalanced saccharine mess that tastes of pine, pineapple, and sugar, like sucking down a Christmas-scented candle. Plantation/Planteray continues to disappoint...

If you like cognac, I mean strong hard cognac you will enjoy this one. You need to drink this as a cognac. This cannot be sipped as a rum in my opinion.

For me this is not rum, if I rate this as a rum it is straight up motor oil with a flavor. It is not sippable as a rum, but I would recommend this for cognac drinkers and you should treat it as such, especially for that price tag!
