Captain Morgan Black Spiced rum
Captain Morgan Black Spiced review posted 4 days ago by Cool Breeze (PREMIUM) 🇺🇸 | 644 ratings

Tasted at Bull Moose on 9-15-24. Pours black. Sepia black. Overpowered aroma of vanilla. Flavor is artificial vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Mild caramel and chocolate is more reminiscent of a candy bar than a spiced rum. Medium tingle to the palate. This is likely the best CM product I’ve had, but that’s not saying much.

That Boutique-y Rum Company Greensand Ridge Batch 1 Single Distillery 1-Year rum

Thoughts: As with many light rums it is a real challenge to get much going for it. On the nose it is very light with pear and citrus being the main components but on initial tasting it is full of flavour in comparison. Trying to get excited about something and it really doesn't work all that well - there is a light pepperiness throughout with hints of apple and charcoal. The navy strength comes powering through but the pepper stops it from causing too much burn. The pepper needs toning down and the main flavour - we guess apple - needs toning up.

Rating: 3/10

Smell - very light, pear, lemon
Taste - full of flavour, vegetal, apple, charcoal, pepper
After Taste - medium length, liquorice, white pepper

That Boutique-y Rum Company Haiti Batch 4 18-Year review posted 5 days ago by DL01 🇬🇧 | 42 ratings

Thoughts: Not often do we come across Haitian rums and being light in colour with 18 years aged we knew we were going to be baffled and we were. 57% navy strength we expected a smack in the nostrils as well as on the tongue but it didn't come probably making it dangerous! Sweet with a creamy butteriness on the nose which is deceptive to the rich aged taste, a little woody with some white pepper spiciness to it. The finish is quite long with some esters and oak on the tail. £80-100 for a 500ml bottle puts it towards the pricier end for an unknown but an unusual surprise that was a pleasure to taste.

Rating: 7/10

Smell - creamy butteriness, sweet vanilla, pineapple, light
Taste - aged, rich, white pepper spice, young oak, caramel
After Taste - long, esters, oaky

The Rum Cask 1994 Guyana Enmore Single Cask Rev 29-Year review posted 5 days ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 246 ratings

9:On the nose, the first impression we get are dark and thick notes of dried fruits as currants and apricots, dates, prunes, leather, burnt, charred and toasted wood, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, some vegetal notes as eucalyptus, menthol.
As we air it, darkness linger on, as we find cocoa, walnuts, black tea, cherry, fruits melt into a marmelade with cinnamon or are stewed, fermented and tropical for a while with a hint of smoke. We believe, that we have a tasty brioche with juicy jam in front of us.
Resting helps for discovering another layer of notes with brine and herbs, as we get a feeling of a soy sauce now.
8,8:On the palate, the attack is spicy and roasted with cinnamon, pepper, burnt sugar, charred and toasted wood, a bit medicinal, then fruity with dried dates, raisins, prunes, perhaps figs and thick with dark molasses, licorice, black tea. Sometimes we get a feeling of a thick soy sauce, a bit astringent....
There are also notes of leather, mocha, dark and bitter chocolate after resting the rum, as it becomes briny and vegetal with menthol and eucalyptus. Balanced, but intense notes for our tasting buds...
8,8:The finish is long, dry with dried fruits, roasted, charred wood, bitter cocoa, leather and tobacco. It is thick and dark, as notes like black tea, soy sauce, brine and vegetal from palate linger for a long time...

New Grove 2012 Savoir Faire 2012 Single Cask 8-Year review posted 5 days ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 246 ratings

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is roasted and vegetal, a bit spicy and fruity agricole with tea, clove, pear, mirabelle plum, peach and waxy molasses touch, caramelized. Balanced, round.
Aeration helps us digging out new notes as other baking spices, burnt sugar, the tea is black, there is chocolate, the rum is woody and juicy, delicious, as we would have a fruit compote.
8,8:On the palate, we receive a nice portion of tasty red fruits as currants, peaches and fresh vegetal tea notes with wood, going towards dryness. The molasses is sweet, syrupy and waxy, roasted, caramelized as we notice creme brulee. The clove is strong, as other baking spices stay more stealthy.
This agricole is round and complex, we taste new notes after aeration, more sweet and tasty, the tea is black, fruits are dried, we think of a fruit compote, later, when they melt, even of a fruit cake, as they might be candied also.
When well rested, some medicinal notes could be tasted and perhaps leather.
8,7:The finish is long, woody, dry with dried fruits, waxy molasses, some spices, nutty and black tea...
These days I am in fond of agricole and TDL very much🤩😋... 🙂

Thoughts: Given their top end rums are amazing, it's a shame their lower range just doesn't do it for us. It started off well on the nose with some dried fruit and fresh pine wood but the flavour didn't live up to what we had hoped for and the finish had surprising esters and old leather. We tried, we drank and probably wouldn't do again.

Smell - golden sultanas, pine, toffee
Taste - rich, heavy, bitter, liquorice, demerara sugar,
After Taste - medium, esters, old leather

The Nectar Of The Daily Drams 2009 15th Anniversary Fiji 12-Year rum

8,3:On the nose, the first impression is rather unpleasant with chemical notes, some medicinal, but quickly wanes into the pleasant one with tea, hay, fermented, stewed tropical fruits as papaya and banana, is a bit grassy and fresh. A green apple is joined. Fruits become candied and tasty in pastry. Yeast is a addition to this spectre.
Nice rest brings out new herbal notes, is a bit waxy now, with latex, going to roasted territory, charred and a bit iodized, metallic and smoky, citrusy.
8,6:On the palate, we are attacked with spiciness(ginger, green pepper) and tropical fruits, tea, hay, is very intense, a bit roasted, mineral. The fruits are fermented, stewed. Pastry notes are tasty. Green apple and yeast are intertwined, joined with toasted bread. The rum is balanced and harmonious now. Rest is welcome, as sweet wine notes arise, going towards vegetal and herbal, there is some licorice, becomes salty later.
Tasty gingerbread jumps into the notes theatre with dried apricot as a dessert on the afterparty. Very yummy palate spectre...
8,6:The finish is long, woody, dry, roasted, vegetal with confectionery, fermented tropical fruits, dried fruits, tea, a bit warm with spicy ginger.

Rhum JM La Dame Jeanne Numero 2 2023 rum
Rhum JM La Dame Jeanne Numero 2 2023 review posted 6 days ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 246 ratings

9,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is a very impressive, tempting, balanced rum with juicy peaches, candied fruits, vanilla and pleasant wood, French wine touch. Sugar cane is tasty and mineral, caramelized. A nice representative of an agricole. Milk chocolate and roasted nuts add to very attractive first face of this rum.
When we air it, the complexity is shown with new faces of it once in a while, as the fruits are now tropical, some sweet spices and floral notes mark the presence. It becomes a bit tanninic. New markers are also vegetal notes with tea, grass, medicinal with a touch of polish which is well integrated in the mix.We are going towards another face with more darker side with mocha, chocolate fudge, burnt sugar, toasted oak, peanuts, peanutbutter as the feeling is syrupy.
After well rest, we could add another layer of notes as cocoa, hazelnut, a whiff of mint, orange peel and dried fruits.
A man could hardly find so round, tempting, hedonistic rum on the nose....
8,8:On the palate, the attack is very agricole like with spiciness, mineral sugar cane, caramelized and tea, the darker side is very present with some medicinal notes, mocha, chocolate, fudge, roasted nuts, is woody, dry, vegetal with olive, basil, complemented with cocoa, vanilla and nuts.
Now we could notice some bourbon touch with yellow fruits, there is red wine nicely woven into the darker notes of this complex rum.
Another layer of notes is stronger with nice rest with candied fruits, is citrusy, there is some orange peel. Some notes that crawl randomly in are some mint, brine and leather. Inspite of all this notes, the picture of the rum is intact as it is very round, balanced and tasty.
8,7:The finish is a long agricole with mineral sugar cane, orange, woody and nutty, chocolate, roasted , there are dried fruits, a bit astringent, dry, tea, olive, some spiciness and some leathery touch for a tasty happy end.
Cheers 🍾🥂.
