I have not tried the newer stock of the 21. I have often found Appleton to have a distinctive and unappealing after taste, even with the 21. However in recent purchases, I haven't noticed the after taste nearly as much. I am not sure if that is a function of me getting used to it or if they have changed their blending approach. ...

Earl: I already wasted my money on a bottle of Ambassador, so that one is out (too much sherry aging). The Centuria has too much added sugar, so that one is out. This leaves Zafra 30, which I have yet to try. ...

@Triton There is a good classification from Luca. Rum or modern rum can summarize all the rums that come from a multicolumn distillation. https://www.lamaisonandvelier.com/velier/gargano-classification/ If you want to categorize the flavor, I think it's best to designate the region it comes from. And to be more specific, then the mark of the distillery....

Hi Rene,I like to drink high ester rums. Preferably from Jamaica and Fiji. Hampden, Worthy Park and Long Pond are my favorites. I prefer to drink older high ester rums (10 years and older) because the storage makes the rums rounder and smoother without the ester suffering. The continental Hampdens HLCF, <>H and C<>H score particularly well here. The young tropical ones are more direct ...

Hi kudzey, I also did not know about Arak and Arrak and is quite confusing because there are already at the Arrak two completely different types of raw materials. The arrack from Sri Lanka or Bali is made from fermented palm blossom juice, the arrack from Thailand is made from molasses / rice mash. The distillate from palm blossoms reminds more of an Agricole the other one of a funny molasses rum...

You mean Hampden when you talk about overpriced Jamaican rum? Yes, the prices have risen sharply in recent years. The special thing about Jamaica rum are the fruit flavors (high esthers), these are created by a long fermentation of up to two or three weeks. Such long fermentation is expensive and was done for the flavor industry. Carboxylic acid and a certain type of alcohol are produced, resul...

I might write a review after only one tasting. But I usually try to have tasted a rum multiple times before review and ratings. That is especially true with rums that I do dislike, since they might taste much better on another occassion. With rums that I am sure I do like the first time, I am less hesitant to write something right away. I will revise my review and my ratings if I re-visit a rum a...

Personally I have never found any decent rums in Canada under $37 CAD ($30 USD) but have found what I consider cheap (under $50 CAD) rums in Canada that I really enjoy and have scored an 8 +, they are: Mount Gay XO ($47 CAD) …so sad it is no longer available. Appleton Estate Rare Casks 12 yr ($42 CAD) Cruzan Barrel Estate ($40 CAD) ...

Hey guys, wondered if any of you have tried Juggling King Rum? Worth grabbing a bottle. It's a seed to bottle rum, based in Guernsey, which I think is the only of its kind in the whole of the British Isles!! https://jugglingkingrum.com/...

I had a few rums that I could drink after 6 months. Botucal Mantuano was one of them. You can try, through evaporation rum loses unwanted flavors too. But there are also some bad examples like La Hechicera, I couldn't drink that one after a few months....

I've been looking forward to this since I got my bottle of Real for Christmas. Side by side with 30. The 30 not much scent sugary smooth, very nice if you like sweet rums. Finding it a bit too sweet for my pallet tonight. Also note it's a Solara 30 that doesn't excite me for the price, but in small print I see the Real states the same. Now the Real, similar depth on the nose maybe slightly more pr...

In most of the German speaking world (Germany and Austria), rum balls are usually made with rum aroma (sans alcohol). Alternatively, articial (alcoholic) "rum" like Strohrum or Inländer-Rum may be used. I would like to know what rum balls would taste like with good rum. Could be great, could be a total waste. No idea. For German-style rum balls, some sort of Jamaica-tasting rum would be in...

For me it would be Appleton 12, 15 & 21. MGXO would have been my preference until last year. While MG XO Triple Cask is now readily available it is not as good as the older version. I can think of several others but in my area they are extremely difficult to acquire therefore they don't make this list....

I guess in theory with a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) the group could decide whether to hold the bottle/cask for investment purposes or drink the contents at some point? My first thought was for it to start as more of an investment vehicle, but it would also sure be cool to get a mini bottle of some excellent expensive rum as well that we'd never buy on our own....

Yohobro, The three brands you mentioned are all three good entrance brands to Agricole's. They are all three from Martinique and another good entry brand from Martinique is La Mauny. I also think that you should look for rum from Guadeloupe, which I think is great. I would say that all the brands from Guadeloupe are good entry brands. The problem I can see is your price limit, cause Agricole i...
