Rum of the year 2021
2021 is just around the corner. I have looked around for best rums from 2021 at popular reviewers. Not everyone has published their 2021 list yet and some have stopped writing in 2021. Can only agree with Fatrumpirat, also price value wise very good rum selection for 2021.

I was very surprised by SBS this year. The bottlings of old REVs and Skeldons were numerous and very unexpected. Also very old bottlings of Hampden (Rum Artesanal) were unexpected for me, I thought such old bottlings no longer exist.Overall, all IBs have improved greatly. Plantation, Rum Nation, RA, SBS all have released incredibly strong bottlings. A good step towards establishing rum as a high-class spirit.
What I missed would be a SVW bottling (my favorite mark from Demerara). I was pleased by last Employee Caronis from 96, of which unfortunately no more will come.
It was an incredible year. 2021 has topped the last year again.
Happy New Year vomi and all!
My top 5 for the year in no particular order (note, these are rums I had in 2021, release dates vary)
Saint Lucia Distillers Vendome Sugarcane 9 year
National Rums of Jamaica Long Pond STCE 13 year
Velier Tiger Shark
Hampden Great House 2020
Holmes Cay Fiji
Honorable mention - Neisson L'Esprit
I do not feel qualified to select a rum of the year 2021. I felt like this was the year of to expensive releases. My favorite (most consumed) rum this year was the Appleton 12 year old.
The new Appleton 12 (new bottle design) was released also in 2021 or not? It's much better for me than the old one. Therefore also a gut rum of the year 2021.
I don't think I've tasted something released during 2021.
Maybe the English Harbour 2014 High Congeners was, but anyway that's my choice together with the Pusser's 50th Anniversary of those I tasted for the first time during 2021.
Rum of the year 2021 nominees
Hampden marques rum show 2021 pack - This has lead to a holiday booking in 2022 so had massive impact in exploring Jamacian rum
Chairman's legacy - unbelievable for the price point , tastes and smells of pure quality rum from the Caribbean , a steal and a must for a home bar
Worthy Park 109 - A dark artificially coloured Jamaican rum that rivals Mount Gay Black barrel for the best rum & pepsi Max lime in the world
Hampden LROK Habitation Velier -
This was bottled by HV & is an insanely good rum , had this before the Rum marque pack but I think Light rum Owen Kelly (LROK) is my favourite Hampden Marque and this expression is beautifully bottled
Duppy Share white - Supermarket rum that finally delivers with a finish tasting of pineapple . At one point you could pick up a bottle of this for £17 which meant I obviously purchased 3 bottles
Clarin sajous- want something different to rum then approach Clarin that rather than having sweetened rum constantly is more a savoury option in the grassy notes. Beautiful product from a great country and with Haiti having a rough year it makes me wonder if this stuff will become a product hard to get hold of like anything Foursquare
English Harbour 2010 Port cask finish -
I have tried Worthy park and Foursquare port cask finishes . Both are amazing but require a mortgage to purchase or even find .English Harbour released this one that was a gentle suprise that delivers on the cask adding depths of flavours ...
English Harbour Port Cask Finish is a small-batch rum, aged initially in ex-bourbon casks and finished for up to six months in 100-year-old port casks.
Every time I poured myself Clairin Le Rocher - usually into a mojito or a dark and stormy - it just made me laugh! It's the craziest drink, and always makes me smile!

3. Rumclub Private Selection Australia 14 years
4. The Nectar Long Pond 15 years

@Galli33
1. about 300 €
2. released in 2020 (but good choice) release price 110€
3. check! (very good) release price 80€
4. about 200 €
5. about 600€
Generally i cant afford those and even if i could my limit would be about 200 €/ bottle. And for 200 € it must be something really really good. It is not only about me. I think every average person cant afford those prices and this products are only for bragging or speculating.
As far i understood fatrumpirate also wants the rums in his list available and some kind of affordable. And i see the point in this idea. I do not want to be salty. It is ok to release rums for 300, 500 or even 1000€. But in my opinion they should be out of any ranking.
There was a new Release of RA REV 94 in 2021:

I'm not a big fan of REVs, but this is certainly one of the rums of the year.
@Toni
This was my personal top 5 of 2021. I generally buy a bottle and share it with friends or via meta/whatsapp/telegram or whatever. So I can afford some "overpriced" rums. I fully understand your statement about pricetags.
Just lay back, drink and enjoy a wonderfull rum. Cheers mein Freund 🥃
Hey, i did not want to question your choice to offensively. Was just commenting what im thinking about it. Peace!
My favorite 2021 rum production. The best from left to the right.
