Santa Teresa 1796

Santa Teresa is amazing. In many ways it would top my list. An issue that I often find in rums is that they are underproofed. This is not the case of Santa Teresa, a not too-sweet taste that goes perfectly with mineral water. You do not get as much of the fruity and nutty flavor of sweeter rums, but in exchange you get a smooth fine single honey flavor that'll make you happy in the rum sense and you'll appreciate it.

I am very undecided by this one. The first bottle I had bowled me over. I thought it was all the rum that I was ever looking for. But since then, it is more of a case of it being OK but nothing special. Where I loved the balance of spice and oak, the subsequent bottles left me feeling that it was all a little disjointed and forced.

Edit - I am wondering whether they blend has changed over the years. The first time I had it was some years ago but I can't believe that time alone would have changed my opinion so drastically.

Another edit: In July 2019, I was passing through Duty Free and picked up a litre bottle, mainly as I had not had it for a while. In all honesty I wish I hadn't. As I mentioned earlier, I cannot believe that this is the same blend as the first bottle I had. I know that the Solera uses rums aged between 4 and 35 years, and wonder whether they might be using more younger rums as it certainly seems (although memory might be playing tricks) a lot more commercial than it used to be.

It´s a nice rum but it doesn`t knock my socks off:-)

Lovely rum, with Good spice and a heavy bottom. Not too sweet. Add a sprink og Water, and The flavours comes to Life.

Lækker afvekslende rom, ikke så fed og sød, men tilgengæld dejlig krydret.
Et overvejende genkøb.

Dans la lignée du Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, ce rhum est doux et ample. Il ravira les débutants comme les connaisseurs de rhums de type espagnol.

This sweet venezuelian rum is just fantastic. The smooth taste of it is similar to the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. A great rum!

A top class rum (but not top of it's class) and way too expensive. It is a well balance enjoyable rum. Would of been 8 stars but took a point off for being greedy ;), Can't say more than that.

Nose: Whipped cream, vanilla extract.

Body: Caramel, oak, berries.

Finish: Baking spices, burnt sugar / creme brulee. A little lingering heat.

Santa Teresa is a light, clean, and pure Spanish style rum; in other words, it's thin and unexpressive. I'd rather appreciate it for what it is rather than what it's not.
