Ron Zacapa XO Rum is produced in the highlands of Guatemala where it is distillled from fresh cane juice. The rum is then aged from 6 to 23 years at 7544 feet above sea level at 62 °F (17 °C) using the solera process. The solera aging process incorporates barrels that previously held American whiskeys, sherries, wines and Cognac
The unique Ron Zacapa XO glass decantur features an impression of a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle

Color — This rum is on the darker end of the spectrum.
Nose — The smell of this rum is pleasant, but certainly not special. You get an initial slight burn, followed by sharp hints of caramel, olives, and wood.
Taste — The initial taste is fairly bitter, with an initial moderate burn. The initial taste is fairly minerally and has slight notes of olives. This initial flavor doesn’t last long, though, as the rum very quickly transitions into very pleasant, intense, and complex notes. In short, the rum takes a second to settle into itself. The aftertaste and linger in the mouth following the initial flavors are exceptional. Wow, this rum has an intense and complex linger. That’s really what makes this rum great. Caramel, honey, grape, ripe bananas, apples, brown sugar. Later in the drink you’ll also get notes of coffee, floral, fruit, wood, and nuts. The linger lasts for a long period, and changes over time — this rum has one of the longest mouth lingers I’ve experienced. Each of these flavors comes out, none is over powering (as is certainly not the case with other rums...).
Overall, this is a great sipping rum. The complexity, intensity, and length of the mouth linger alone give this rum high marks. I only wish that the nose experience and initial taste were just as good. In those areas, I don’t consider this rum to be absolutely exceptional. Good there, but not great. But for aftertaste and linger alone, this rum is completely worth it.
Very smooth, clean taste...i wanted little bit more tricky finish
My first serious rum after years of downing Havana in Mojitos with an occasional tasting of local Caribbean rums. Strong smooth taste, even better on rocks after all the flavours are released
Bought this for christmas and hoped it would be at least half as good as the reviews. Although I was not too disappointed, finding it to be very easy to drink with a nice nutty flavour and very smooth finish, it just seemed so much flatter than the likes of Appleton Estate or Foursquare. The presentation and bottle are great though. I only found out recently, after buying these Zacapa and Diplomatico styles, about the added sugar in certain rums so in future, will stick to the more authentic full bodied rums!
Wow wow wow. Premium rum i stored for special occasion. Yeah, it is special but why too sweet? 😭 but one of my favourite ones
Smooth, velvety, with long & warm finish. A great rum.
Crushed ice in a Riedel Merlot glass. Add XO and swirl until the outside of the glass freezes. Sip away. Nectar of the Gods!
La mejor version de Zacapa, su XO, gran ron, gran cuerpo, mezcla de aromas inolvidables. Precio justo para lo que vale. Mucho mejor que el Solera 23 que me sabe muy dulce.

It is rich with coffee notes and a little tobacco.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Complexity overwritten by cognac and sweet. Allspice/vanilla is strong. Fills the mouth and nose. Like others, I like Plantation XO anniversary better, but worth having tasted. Each person has their own tastes. So enjoy this an others.
