Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Not the most spectacular rum on earth but really nothing to complain about. An easy drinkable rum with a nice dark brown colour...
Lo esperable de Zacapa, color dorado oscuro, notas dulces de cafe tostado y vainilla, mantecoso.
Nice taste but way too sweet to deserve a better rating.
First, I do not know enough of Rum - yet!
So for me it is all about taste and this is smooth, not so sweet and good!
Love this Guatemalan rum. Nice bite, not too sweet.
TL/DR - fine for the price, let it breathe for a while before drinking.
Nice notes of mahogany, tobacco, brown sugar and vanilla. I had this neat and also smoked with applewood. Both were great.
But for the price, I'd go with the much smoother Plantation XO. Z 23 is a nice alternative though.
A fine rum, although a bit pricey in comparison to the quality
A bit lighter bodied than expected, and a bit more burn. That said, a cube of ice to cut it brings out flavor, or at least my ability to perceive it. Worth trying for sure, and many rate it more highly. Perhaps I am finding my favorite profiles though.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

On tasting this rum, I had little doubt that this makes most any drinker satisfied. It is creamy, rich and fruity. It has a moist and hearty bouquet of dates and molasses for me and it has a tart cherry, vanilla and caramel taste initially on the tongue. It transfers to a very slight burn and then the date, brown sugary finish. It is smooth and easy to like and drink. It is not the least expensive in its class but is available anywhere from end of the world outposts to even snooty wine bars. It tastes great but does not conquer all.
