Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Some may find this overly sweet. Personally, I very much enjoy it. I find it to be a great introduction to the subtle art of drinking rum for people who don't know anything about it and think that Bacardi Superior is as good as it gets. This is just something else entirely.
Very sweet and easy to drink. It seems there's quite some sugar added, though. This is my second rum.
This one just doesn't work for me. Not too excited about taste - it just all feels drowned in alcohol. Too straightforward, trying lil too hard. Aftertaste is not that bad though.
Solo sufficiente costa di più del diplomatico riserva exclusiva ed è meno buono
Zacapa is one of my favorites. The notes and taste of this rum warms my heart. Zacapa would be the rum for any occasion.
I can't believe I didn't rate this back when I first tried it a few months ago! It must have been because it was very memorable... or perhaps because it's a real aged rum... or perhaps because it's not a sweet concoction... or perhaps because the "23" is a blatant lie... But oh no, it's closer to a liqueur, with added flavourings and colourings. Tasty, but not a rum. And the 23 is pure atrezzo. And EVEN then, the flavours are not that interesting!
The aroma is smooth and strong vanilla (maybe a bit of vanillin fell in with the sugar?). The flavour profile includes toffee, raisins and more vanilla. Tastes simple but "feels" nice, however this Christmas pudding flavour is never what one should expect from a real spirit.
A good regular rum, a bit too sweet. The rum is for starters, with not much experience in rum tasting.
Rich in flavour and the aftertaste is one of the most surpricing pleasure of this fantastic products.
This is the rum that turned me. Amazing. Until I tried Appleton 21....
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

I liked this for its smoothness and the easy transfer of flavours as you sip it. Long finish. Great. Not a 9 or 10 because almost too smooth? Like something raw has been lost on the way. Still amazing though
