Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Like it but far too sweet. I buy it from time to time, but it’s not something I always keep at home.
Sweet, smooth, easy to drink, great for making rum toddies on a cold winter day.
I never liked rums, but his one got me to that and remains my personal
love. IMHO best price to taste ratio. Very smooth, not too sweet My father in law it declared as best spirit he had in life. Even if Indrift off to try other runs, it always amazes me how good it is when I return...
I'm surprised that some say this is too sweet. I would say this is exactly the sweetness a rum drinker would expect.
Very smooth sipping, becomes even smoother with an ice cube that releases even more fruitiness.
Bottle with weave around it is a nice touch to presentation.
Drinking this one is like drinking candy. A perfect everyday rum.
Had read alot of promising reviews about this bottle but the flavor wasn't in my taste.
I find it hard to pin point what I don't like about this rum, I guess it's the blend of it all, just don't sit well with me.
Admittedly, I am slightly biased to this rum as it was my first 'nice' rum that I picked up from a duty free on the way to a beach in the middle of nowhere... but boy did it kick off a journey.
First thing to get out of the way is that it's sweet, very sweet - I have since read unnaturally so, which is kind of a shame, but don't let purism and appendage measuring put you off - this is still a nice drink and a good place to start. Medium body, slight warmth with caramels, vanilla, toffy, hints of coffee and a slight oak. Not loads in the way of length other than sweetness. Moving forward I'd probably reserve this for mixers and advise spend a little more and go for a Ron Quorhum 30 Year Old instead!
End of the day, if you enjoy it, then crack on!
With current travel restrictions I was forced into Total Wine for a replenishment of some sipping rum. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being incredibly disappointed and 10 not at all, I'm probably an 8. I knew that this was going to be the best I could do. Is it drinkable? Yep. Is it tasty? Not as much as my preferred rhum agricole. It's slightly worse than a Flor de Cana I had just run out of. One glass and I'm good. It will be a good back up and is a lesson learned to forage more deeply into other purveyors in my area.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

It’s got a silky feeling to it, and a good introduction to sipping rums that folks seem comfortable with, so that’s good for the whole culture, but i don’t see it as the “gold standard” that its revered as.
