Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Smooth. Started with Xo and just opened the 23. Very enjoyable. And much cheaper than xo.
Well This is my go to everyday rum. I enjoy its caramel sweetness ang taste. However as my rum journey has depend so has my understanding and its lack of purity is a shame. Labeld correctly I would give it a 8, pulled down a bit due to its marketing gimmickry. (Do note that they are not the only brand to do this) However. If you are a starter on your rum lovers journey this to me is a necessary stop on the way :-)
This blew me away and I have hardly found another rum or other drink that I love as much as this. Sometimes I don't even add ice cubes to it.
Used to be my personal favourite. For me - definite must-have in the cabinet. This spirit started my journey of sipping rums - its flavour can easily convince any beginner, that there is much, much more to discover in world of rum than just mixing in cocktails.

Update: Yeah, Zacapa was my first rum, but having explored other rums, I must admit it is not that special. Still recommended, however my inital admiration has already evaporated.
This is my gold standard to compare other sipping rum. Full-bodied and classic taste profiles of a nice rum. Not too sweet.
Truly a wonderful premium choice. Complex deep spice, yet smooth and balanced. Not overtly sweet.
First rum I've tasted and I enjoy. This is my baseline.
This rum is wonderful. Very smooth and easy to drink !
Bought this after reading great reviews from various sources and have to say I was disappointed. This is not a terrible rum but it isn't outstanding either. Considering how much this is promoted and the price I prefer Kaniche XO or El Pasador easily over this. I always drink it on the rocks and it seems that first taste bites every time. I've moved on from this rum.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

This is a deception in plain rule. Yes, it tastes good, because of additions, sugar (38 g/l) and God knows what. They age it above the clouds to make impossible for common people to know how many intrigues are in this bottle. 23 years solera... ahahah, 23 years my a**! Just the branding has seen the number 23, trust me. Commercial and even expensive as f**k!
