Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Warm, nice, a good company...
Nice bottle. Dark amber colour in the glass.
Nose: orange, vanilla, honey, fudge
Taste: sweet honey, dried fruits, orange peel, caramel, vanilla, chocolate
Smooth and full of flavour. Good value for the money.
Enjoyed this rum a lot. Well worth the cost of the bottle.
This was the first rum that got me into sipping. I used to just drink rum and cokes, and never got into sipping rum. This was recommended to me by a friend, and it was great. This is what got me into rum, good price, great smooth taste. Its on the sweeter side, which i prefer something a little bit more rich in flavor.
First introduced to itvin my local. It has some sweetness to it ( if you don't mind that) but the taste is exquisite. Always have a bottle at home.
Makes a fantastic MaiTai when paired with Appleton Estates and Pierre Ferrand Curacao. but not a great sipper. Too sweet and based on the other reviews, it's because they and sugar. I'll stick to it mixed.
Nicely balanced, perfect from start to finish - an evergreen.
Great nose, smooth taste, and nice finish. A nice treat, and a great sipper.
Again I just had some last night around a fire. Great taste and love the darker color. One of my staples that I keep around.
@Simon, bien doux ! C’est chiant de devoir écrire cinquante caractères.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Nose: Brown sugar, vanilla, some dark fruit, a little bit of tar.
Palate: Caramel, chocolate, alcohol soaked cherries, vanille. Very liqueurish and thick.
Finish: Spices, clove, vanilla, mokka.
I bought this on recommendation from the liquor store staff when I was still quite new to rum and had no idea about "Spanish style" rums and their affinity for added sugar. And while it certainly isn't bad, I can say that this particular style doesn't really suit my preferences.
I can understand why cigar smokers like Ron Zacapa as it seems robust and bold enough to co-exist with tobacco smoke.
