Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I understand why people would be disappointed to find out about all the hidden additives and the fact that it is denied/ hidden by the manufacturer, especially in relation to a 'premium' rum.
However, I do prefer things on the sweeter side so this really ticks the boxes for me. It isn't cheap but I unfortunately drink it like it is.
Have never tried mixing it.
Let an apprehensive friend try a sip and she was in shock. "There's no burn!"
Balanced, full-bodied rum, sweet, but not overly sweet, excellent with medium-to-full and full-bodied Cuban cigars.
To sweet to be true is the perfect sentence to describe zacappa 23. Sometimes you just can't handle
With Diplomatico RE, this is the second pillar of my gate into to world of rum. It has drier taste profile than the Diplomatico, and considering the complexity - I value this Zacapa higher. The nose is sweet, toffee, burnt sugar, the taste is quite much drier, with pronounced oak from older rum composites of this solera, fruits, mainly raisins, the taste is pleasantly rich, decorated with cocoa and coffee notes, and the aftertaste ends this experience with mainly oak and coffee. Nicely done. The sugar level is acceptable, some 20g/l which is less than most of the mass marketed "premium" rums such as Diplomatico RE, Dos Maderas 5+5, Plantation 20, Centenario 20.
Nice if a bit too sweet. Caramel notes and (call me a heathen) when put in a daiquri it makes for a very toffee flavoured daiquri which sounds weird but was nice. Very expensive for what it is. Give me Appleton 12 year blend or Kirk and sweeney over this. Might have to revisit their scores
It’s a great easy to get entry level into good rums. I get a strong toasted to burnt toffee smell and taste. With a little coffee flavor. All around a good rum
Very sweet and incredibly rich. This rum is more akin to a fortified wine than your average port.
Zacapa 23 leans hard into its flavor profile. For some its not rum, for others its a delicious treat. Personally I am in the latter category. An excellent rum to have after hours to wind down and relax with. The sweet virgin sugar cane really comes through with the caramel and cocoa for me.
Not a bad choice.
For the price it's a good rum. It will amaze you when you are new yo rums and over the years settle down to just being solid! You can't go wrong with it.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Never one to displease for me - drink it straight from the bottle to the glass, needs nothing extra. Perfect every mouthful
