Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

On the nose I can feel cinnamon with apples, but I do not feel it in mouth. Tastes are difficult to define with ethanol and sugar burn, but after all, Zacapa is sweet, easy to buy and drink, but for me little bit overpriced rum, 6/10, for color, bottle and packaging - 7/10
This is a decent blend (not a real 23yr though). It's robust and not very sweet but not dry either. Oak smell and taste is nice but not overpowering. A bit on the expensive side for what it is but got it much cheaper on black friday !
I was gifted this rum for my Birthday and I enjoyed it very much. Always smooth and tasty. Definitely sweet, which, as I said, I like.
Not as good as the Royal but oke for me. I have no comment other than just taste and enjoy!!
A Sweet Rum that is excellent. Very smooth tasting and probably my favourite
"Premium" rum loaded with sugar. Taste it close to other serious options (for the same price or even much less money) and you'll notice a big difference. Heavy caramel notes and overwelmingly sweetness are all that I remember from drinking it neat.
3/10 because it is a mixing rum advertised as a quality sipping rum.
Fine sipping experience, perhaps a little sweet. Better bottles available at this price point
Wonderful aging, color and bottle. But all that sugar is not necessary. It could have easily been an 8. Alas. I enjoy sipping it, but not enough to spend all that scratch on a 2nd bottle.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

My first tasting was very satisfying.
I bought it without tasting and was surprising pleased with how smooth it tasted.
Definitely one for the tasting cart.
