Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I had only drank rum very occasionally in cocktails or coke etc on holiday until one of my friends introduced me to Ron zacapa in the local pub on a night out and started me drinking it more often and thought this was great but a bit expensive but now find like gins there's a range of flavours out there to try so after two bottles and others i seem to be drawn less sweet or artificially flavored ones now from now.

Aye, this rum be crowin' on herself. She be a solid rum, but not the amazin' rum most swabs make her out to be. On the nose, she smells slightly sweet with spices and oak... clearly an aged rum. Fine and true aroma as rum goes! On the tongue, she veers off course a bit. Slightly sweet with a shipload of unexpected flavors, starting with cognac. Arrgh, I'm not partial to cognac, but the flavors went on to include caramel, spices, raisins, a hint of coffee, and unless I am mistook... apple? She be smooth with no burn goin' down the hatch - or after. If you or your crew be into cognac, I strongly recommend givin' this a "shot", but for the price, there be better rums to be had...

I really enjoy this rum in an old fashioned. It is not quite smooth enough to drink straight.

Beautiful nose of vanilla toasted caramel brown sugar and molasses

The pallet is smooth and thick tasting of molasses, vanilla, dark caramel and a nice spice finish.

Wood, vanilla and caramel in aroma. Very smooth, rich and round. Burnt sugar with some chocolate on the palate, again with vanilla notes - noble and solid sweetness. Aftertaste is also filled with caramel and vanilla - not too long, but pleasant. Spirit harshness is low in both taste and aroma. Rum classics as is. Safe chioce.

Not sweet, but still good, want more molasses. Want more complexity.

Although its a sugar load, I prefer to have a nice mix glass of this with some coke on ice. Not to overpowering and easy to drink 8/10.

I tastwd two glasses of this rum, it didn't feel like much alcohol, which I actually didn't mind, since it did have a nice flavour and a pretty well rounded, smooth feeling to it. Would definitely recommend, it also feels like a good one to show someone who's unfamiliar with rum.

I am a rum novice and in the past have primarily mixed my rum (Morgan's Black) with Coke or Dr. Pepper. In the last few years I've tasted a number of different types and brands and have found that I like the sweeter spiced and dark rums. I'm still learning to identify the different layers and aromas, but found this one to be sweet and a little smokey.

Bought this bottle and Gosling's Old Rum in the same purchase. Pretty disappointed in how overly sweet both ended up being. The Zacapa wins out in the end with its greater balance of complex flavor, but what a bummer both bottles ended up being! So much sugar!
