Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This was my first sipping rum. The flavor is deep and complex. Yes, it is sweet but that means it can be used in cocktails.
In a rum tasting of sweet rums this one came out first for me. It's sure is sweet, but i like the layers in the mouth. I'm a long time fan of diplomatico and was very suprised that this one is my new favourite.
I get a hint of chocolate, but the girlfriend thinks I'm crazy lol
La couleur très brune m’a fait penser a un spicy mais son côté mielé lui apporte une douceur incroyable. A la fois très agréable et très complexe
For the money there are so many other more exiting bottles.
This Solera "Aged" Rum is quite good. It's not my favorite rum but it is pretty damn good. It has no burn or bite (smooth and mild) and a decent but not particularly complex, fairly sweet flavor (it smells sweet too.) It's similar to Diplomatico in nearly every regard, which isn't surprising considering they're both essentially made the same way. I absolutely recommend trying it (buy a glass) but given it's cost, I would just buy a bottle of Diplomatico as it's a bit better in my opinion (syrup vs. cane) and it's definitely cheaper.
I've seen a bunch of reviews for this rum which are hyper-critical about how sweet it is and such. That said, I for sure have a sweet tooth when it comes my drinks. So, I tend to enjoy the sweeter sipping rums. This rum is smooth and has tons of flavor. Perfect for a novice rum sipper like me.
Хороший ром, но ожидания были явно выше. Нет ярких воспоминаний и желания попробовать еще
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Good Sweet classic rum. I like the sweetness in this one.
