Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Smooth tasting, bold caramel nose with hints of spice. Little tingle on the tongue and goes down a treat. Fabulous.
It's a good enough Rum, nothing less and nothing more. Not as sweet as people love to pretend, but nevertheless sweeter than it should have been, thus the call-out for adding sugar is called for. It's a starting Rum for people, who are accustomed to sweet liquor (including Whisky-Cola), but nothing Rum lovers can get behind as a go to fave.
The nose is lovely, full of aroma.
Not much good to write about this rum. Especially for the price. Tasted more like a $20-25 of rum. It's just fine. Not horrible, not good. Just meh.
Nagyon fincsi, Γ©deskΓ©s, de nem egy bumbu vagy don papa. Olyan igazi rumos! Nagyon vΓ‘rom, hogy megkΓ³stolhassam a cantenario verziΓ³t belΕle!
Based on the reviews, I had relatively high expectations for this rum. However, much better pieces can be found in this price category.
This was one of my first rums so I wasn't sure what to expect, so I waited until I had tried about 20 different rums before rating any of them. I think this rum is similar to Matusalem 23 and Plantation 20th anniversary XO. They're all fairly sweet, and not too exciting, but all solid rum values in my opinion. I liked it, but didn't love it, so I think it rates about a 7. I agree with other comments that this is a good rum for beginners, there's nothing to dislike about it, but it lacks character that makes you want to run out and buy it again.
A strong aroma. Sweet taste to palate. A good aged rum for sipping.
I received this as a retirement gift. Nice, dark color, but smells of added sugar. Tried it with Coke Zero and on the rocks. Has that nice rum taste, but too sweet for my taste. I think that you can do better @ the $50 price point.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

By far the most over rated rum in the world. There are so many additives, including sugar and glycerine, which is fine I guess, but they a deny it! It's marketed by Diageo which is one of the biggest liquor companies in the world. The rum has no flair, no passion, it's essentially an alcoholic sugar syrup and for the price you can get so much more. Do yourselves a favor if you want Guatemalan rum and go for ron botran. It's not as sweet, and it adds so much more passion and depth than this garbage
